why dont you call people by their proper name??? you think you're cute??? you think it's funny? i wish it was. i need a laugh
Exactly what it is. A duplicate player. Then we get Chuck Hayes lite. What's wrong with the drunk FO?
Well, I'm not sure what to think. I guess it's kind of interesting that so many people were sure Morey was going to take a guy that Hollinger would favor and in particular, Hollinger pointed out the lack of success short PGs and PFs have in the NBA unless they have dominant statistics in college. I was rather looking for them to trade up to get Jason Smith, when he fell, or trade out of the first round to pick up Fazekas. I don't mind them not going for Davis. He's a talent, but not much of a fit, even if he does get in shape. There were a few players I favored, but Brooks and Landry just never even crossed my radar. Anyway, for what it's worth, here's a link to the official scores from the pre-draft camp. Landry and Brooks rated 5th and 14th, respectively. It's true, Brooks is lightning fast, and really, really short. http://www.openvein.com/ext/Orlando2007-CompleteResults.pdf
I've watched a whole lotta PAC 10 ball on the west coast here, and Brooks is about 10x the player of Lucas III... and I mean no offense to Lucas III. I think Brooks is undervalued by all the Chad Fraud's of the world. Could literally be the fastest guy in the draft. Has a great ability to score in the lane and in traffic. Consistent jumper. I actually favor this to some international (overhyped) random pick like Splitter or what-have-you. You just can't ever expect much in the 20's of the first round.
i saw aaron brooks play a lot this year and the guy is an extremely talented offensive player. he penetrates into the lane very easily, in either direction and is a very good shooter to boot. given his size, defensively, he becomes a liability but he does have quick hands. think of him as a much much better jl3 offensively and defensively. he does have good handles and can run the offense well, oregon was a very talented team this year in the ncaa and he was a huge reason behind all of their success. they drafted a "winner" so i am fine with that. i expect newley to be in the au for a bit longer before coming over.... now though with the glut of guards i expect rafer,head,jl3,vspan or snyder to be moved.
Funny we can see the same thing about JL III. But we don't see he helped Yao or TMac too much, didn't we?
Well... he's at least got an inch or so on Calvin Murphy... descriptions give hope he has a similar heart; maybe even Sura-like. A lot depends on how good his mid-range jump shot is. If he's quick, can get open shots and make them, that's a step up from what we've had. No more floaters, please? ... we have no choice, now, to but wait and see. The real work now begins to get the PF spot shored up.

Okay, I admit, I like this pick. Brooks can help out Yao getting open shots if he penetrates to the basket. Also leaves our 3 point shooters out on the wings. And we now have someone who can finish on the fast break. Put James at point and brooks at guard and you have a 2 on 1 Fast break finish. The only thing I'm disappointed in is Landry. Yeah he had some good games (24 vs Ohio State on Oden) but I would of rather stuck with Davis.
We have the shortest backcourt in the league, and no legitimate PF. Thanks Morey for making this team step backwards.
Just wait till the season begins. By then I think Morey will make us really happy by acquiring a PF through free agency or a trade.
I don't have any problems with Brooks, in every sport alot of the people who consistently have the most success in the draft have draftboards that are drastically different then their counterparts. In anycase its the #26 pick, if you don't think you can get your guy before the next time you draft then you pretty well have to take him when you can. If nothing else it shows that Morey really believes he has something in Brooks. As for Brooks himself, I watch a fair amount of college bball, and the few times I saw him play he was pushing his team to win. Hitting big shots, and generally making plays. I love his range, and his ability to get into the lane. I dunno if it will translate to the NBA, but with his type of quickness he has a real chance. He was able to get his team to beat more talented teams which is a good sign. Finally as for the griping, thats the nature of things. When the average fan doesn't see a name they recognize this is typically the type of thing thats going to happen.
Well maybe this guy can be our answer to T Parker and Utahs PG. Im willing to give him some time. I for one think M James is to flaky to be counted on in the long run. If things dont go his way I can see him pulling a Bonzi.
