I'm sure the Brooks kid is good, but my problem with the way the Rockets have been drafting the last 2 years is that they are not getting value for their draft picks. Don't reach for this kidl, if you could have gotten him in the 2nd round. There was plenty of premier talent left. Just very disappointed.
Whether they are serious questions or not, I can answer them. I'll make it a more general quesiton 1) Can Aaron Brooks play defense? Yes, he can. Short and simple. He's 5'11 1/2 with a 6'3 1/3 wingspan and lateral quickness similar to Marcus Banks. The major problem is that he needs to pack in about 10-15lbs on his frame so bigger PGs, in this case Deron(or even Kidd, and Baron) don't overpower him. And just like Banks, defensively he can cause havoc for the other team, but sometimes he acts way too aggressive and picks up fouls. Tremendous full court pressure defensive player and an answer for those quick guards. 2) He is fast, and who will he run with? McGrady is best served to run on a secondary break, Battier is quite slow, as is Yao and Chuck can only hit a layup. So that's a good question. I guess a lot depends upon the new 4 we'll get. On top of that, Brooks is fast, but more importantly quick, he's somebody we can use for a penetrate and dish game or pick and roll game. 3) How will this help Yao? He's somebody that can penetrate and has a finishing ability. That opens up easy dishes to Yao. He's somebody with a very high percentage shooting, that helps Yao with spacing the floor. I'm liking this pick a whole lot, though I wish we would've gotten Big Baby at 31 not Carl Landry.
It's not like moving down 5 spots is easy to do. You take the player that you want. It's not the NFL where there are 7 rounds.
At 29, I'm saying. They expected for him to fall to 29 and the Suns were forced to keep 24 or 29. 24 costs more money, though marginal, so they acquired 3 million in cash for the pick plus drafted Tucker at 29. They earned money through this draft.
These are two attributes that Rafer lacks. If he can finish in the lane better than Rafer then it is a plus to me. I can't tell you how much screaming I did when Rafer would go in for a finger roll and it rolled off the rim instead of in. No doubt they better have a trade in the works for a starting PF. I will be OK with this if that is the case. Waiting, waiting, waiting ...
This Brooks kids, .... , give them the benefit of doubt, please (maybe; I'm late). http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=tx26draft&prov=st&type=lgns Rockets snare PG Brooks with 26th pick June 28, 2007 NEW YORK (Ticker) - The Houston Rockets addressed a need in the backcourt by selecting Oregon's Aaron Brooks with the 26th pick in Thursday's NBA draft. Brooks is a point guard who can put up points, leading the Pac-10 Conference in scoring at 17.7 points and propelling Oregon to the regional final of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in six years, where it lost to eventual champion Florida. Despite his slender 160-pound frame, the 6-0 Brooks played big in the biggest games, scoring 25 points - including the winning 3-pointer - in a win over then-No. 1 UCLA, and netting a game-high 27 points against Florida. ADVERTISEMENT Brooks can score and he can use his speed to get by his defender and get into the lane. In college, Brooks was asked to do more of the former and less of the latter, but in the NBA that order is likely to be reversed. He'll have to learn to think more like a point guard now that he has talented scorers to play with.
Actually, I'm not too confident they have a trade for a PF on the lines at all. I'm quite worried actually about that the more I think about it, but it's good to know that we have a good reason to believe Brooks will be a PG for us for quite a bit of time instead of just a journeyman PG. Anyways, I think we got killed when we saw Landry go 31. He was our target at 54, basically we paid cash for nothing to Orlando. I guess it's some gratitude for the severe effects of the Tracy McGrady trade. Though, Stevie is now a Blazer, quite interesting.
Totally awesome, Dude!!! I must admit that I am even happier than I was at the conclusion of last years draft. Without a legitimate PF on our roster we just passed up on Big Baby; Tiago Migrane Splitter Headache; Nick Fuzznuts & Josh McDukie to torch our first round pick in an even more unimaginable way on someone who not a single mock draft (out of the 80 I reviewed) projected in the first round and who isn't tall enough to see over my wife without shoes. Words can not describe how very proud and elated I feel to be a Rockets fan at this fine moment in franchise history!!! After we just fired Van Grumpy (a mistake IMO) to bring in the Rick "The Retired Unemployed Idiot" Adelman, we follow that brillance up with a draft that is even dumber than last years Rockets draft and any draft in the history of the Houston Texans. Without question we should have either traded down if we were so enamored to draft this SHORT SHRIMP ASS NO NBA FUTURE ROBERTS (a JL III clone with a bigger guaranteed contract) or we shoud have taken the best 4 on the board at # 26. We just totally blew this pick in a way that is unimaginably stupid. All night I kept awaiting a trade announcement thinking surely this couldn't be possible. Seriously, I can no longer root for a franchise that is this completely inept. Yao, Tracy & Shane stunk come the playoffs when they were all healthy. And now we can't even make a common sense choice to take the best player available who just happened as luck would have it to be at a HUGE position of need in order to torch some future guaranteed money on a SHORT GUY we could have easily still had at 54. I quit this team!!!!!!! Please let me introduce you to my brother Darryl (Morrey) and my other brother Darryl and my other brother Darryl (Morrey).
I give moneyball credit. At least, we should wait some time for the possible trade before jumping to conclusion.
Fixed it for ya !.....we don't need JL3 and Brooks that would be two midget sized PGs.... We need versatility. DD
http://youtube.com/watch?v=VeXpdt8dRlE Brooks is an ok player, but there was absolutely no point in drafting him
I'm sorry, DD... but it seems that your boy Spanoulis is getting the shaft this offseason. His role ideally would be to be a quick scoring PG off the bench, right? Well, Mike James will be the scoring PG off the bench, and now Brooks will be the Speedy Gonzalez off the bench. Spanoulis has no role now. I think one thing is certain about this pick, and it's that Spanoulis is either gone, or will have no more playing time this year than last. Clearly Adelman doesn't think much of him.
guys theres no way we're going into the season with just chuck hayes as our pf. we have to believe that we have someone either targeted with the mle or in a trade involving luther, rafer, or span and lucas. the glut of guards will be gone. i have no idea who most of these players in the draft are so i'm not really disappointed in the pick. i am disappointed in this dude being 5'11" but we'll see what happens. overall i just got back from the greatest astros game of my life, so i'm in a good mood anyways.
According to Draftexpress, Landry was one of the highest value PF picks in the entire draft. Right behind Fazekas, stats-wise, taking everything into consideration. No mystery at all why morey wanted him.
