Tiago Splitter was such a steal at #28... The Spurs once again show how great their management is while the Rockets just get worse and worse.

    ARGHHHH!!!

This message is for all you Rockets fans (including myself).

I live in Los Angeles. I've watched pac-10 basketball for many years. This past season, pac10 was very strong as Oregon, UCLA, USC, Washington, Arizona were all ranked in the top 20. When Oregon played against USC and UCLA, he literally dominated them (#1 UCLA). No one could stop him. He can create his own shot easily. He scored 27 against Florida in the NCAA playoffs. Let me repeat, he scored 27 against Florida, the NCAA champion. The guy reminds me of Iversion, no kidding here. He led pac10 scoring in a tough conference.

He absolutely earned me over and I really believe he's better than Nick Young and Affalo.

He's going to surprise lots of people. I see him starting in year 2.

i know what you mean. I watch pac10 (mostly just arizona and whoever they play) but brooks has done a number on them a few times. The guy is a very good college player and he led a very good team. It is just surprising as hell that a team with 4 or 5 pgs goes out and gets another, undersized one. its a shock to say the least.

I like the pick. If Houston had anyone else who can create his own shots, they would've beaten utah. Their weakness was clearly:

    1. A 3rd option. someone who can create his own shots.
    2. Rafer was awful offensively. We need a point guard who can score.
    3. You can't win a championship with Rafer and you know that for a fact.
    4. We don't need a PF who can score. It's not hard to find one.

well true, but didnt MJ fill that need of a scoring pg?

if miami can win a championship with old ass payton and white chocolate, the rockets could win it with rafer and a compliment. MJ/rafer combo is easily enough at pg position IF yao and tmac step it up and play well.

    For me:
    1. Mike James is overrated, over the hill and not quick enough. He's 30+, isn't he? Brooks could start for many years to come. The guy can drive and can score, super fast. He will make teams pay when teams doubles Yao or Tracy.
    2. If you are a big Rockets fan last year, just ask yourself how many times you hear this......"Rafer drives, blows another lay up". Also, he creates TOs at crucial times. Remember during a stretch of 13 games, he was awful shooting.
    3. I would start, Yao, McGrady, Brooks, Battier, Hayes or someone better.
    4. I wouldn't trade Battier away. He's got too many pluses. He only helps you.
    5. PG who can score are hard too find. They have the ball all the time. If you can find one, get him at all cost.
    6. James + Alston are good for bench though. Depends on situations.

i haven't seen him play much but i think we actually might end up with a steal here. you know how it is, same as in football, scouts tend to put to much value on size. i don't care if he's short if he can fill it up for us. we were scoring challenged last year. who was a better scorer still available when we drafted?

Honestly, I was very surprised by the three picks last night, then after I calmed myself down, I could see what the management is trying to do..

Ideally, they draft Brooks to backup James/Vspan, and if Vspan choose to stay in Europe, then Brooks could the insurance backup. This mean, Rafer, Lucas, Head is very likely being traded.. Personally, I want to keep Snyder just in case Bonzi didn't meet our expectation, then we will have a guy like Bonzi as a backup plan.

People expect too much from #26, including myself, if the interview was true, then even we really did got that Rudy Fernadez guy, he won't be in our roster this year either. Compare to now, we have Brooks as a potential pick and someone who we can actually use this year, I am fine with that...

Head, Alston, Sura = a good PF;Lucas could be traded for a future 2nd rounder; then we still have the whole MLE and LLE to play with... I think Rockets will be loaded with talented players this coming year...

A piece of advice though to the Rockets management: "There are lots angry fans out there, you guys should announce the next acqusition quick, i.e. a good PF that everyone is waiting for..."

well you could also say how many layup chuck hayes blew, or how many 16 foot jumpers can tmac miss or how can yao constantly fade away against lessor defenders. everyone has their flaws and yes, rafer doesnt finish particularly well. But he does a lot of other things well outside of scoring...because well, he isnt a scorer nor should he be forced into that role. Unfortunately last year he was forced into that role.

MJ/rafer combo is pretty solid. not great, but solid.

but you're right about MJ getting older. He doesnt have too many miles on the tred since he didnt play NBA until later but getting someone who can create shots for the future is certainly a good idea if it works out. time will tell, but like i said before...drafting another pg with a team that has several is shocking.

    More comments:
    1. Brooks is 100% better than VSpan, Lucas III even though he hasn't even stepped on the court.
    2. MJ was awful in Minnesota last year. I don't expect much from him and I don't expect him to start either.
    3. You can't consider VSpan, Lucas III as point guards. They probabaly will be out of the league this year if not traded.
    4. Head is not a PG. He is a 2 who can shoot 3s.
    5. Offensively, there was no one better after Brooks at position 26.
In fact, there are only a few who are better than Brooks in the entire draft.

The good thing is: now if the suns go small, the rockets can go midgets.

    Check this lineup:
    J Lucas - PG
    A Brooks - SG
    M James - SF
    C Hayes - PF
    C Landry - C

The midget team's philosophy is: "shoot at 5 sec."

This lineup will beat the suns night in and night out for sure. :D
