Not really There is a reason why the NBA Finals are more important than the Gold Medal game of the Olympics. There really isn't any suspense with these Olympics.
That may be true for other countries, when there is competition. For the USA, there is no peer in basketball. For most in this country, they would rather watch a regular season game b/t the Heat v. Lakers than the gold medal match. You get higher ratings, more coverage, fans going crazy... for a Heat v. Lakers in the reg. season than today's game. Even when we got bronze in 04, the backlash in the media wasn't as bad as say the Heat choking in the NBA Finals.
Agreed, your local team winning a championship trophy and representing your city just means a lot more....
Nope. Compare it to another sport like say swimming or gymnastics for an instance. Those sports have world championships annually, yet the Olympic gold is the ultimate prize. The NBA is just the ULTIMATE league for basketball. You become a legend by winning and dominating in the NBA, not the Olympics. Or else Carmelo would be a legend already
LBJ joins MJ as only players to win NBA MVP, NBA Championship, Finals MVP, and Olympic Gold in same year.
This is why basketball is better than football. You don't have this in football cause no one cares about it.
Did anybody watch the game online at NBCOlympics.com? If you did, did anyone notice how much the two announcers were bashing on Carmelo Anthony? Even the British announcer was badmouthing on him. I counted at least 6-7 digs at him throughout the game. And during the medal ceremony, when they put the medal around his neck, they said "And finally, Carmelo Anthony, they call him an enigma".
no team stays together for 3-4 straight months, unless they have no pro players from semi-decent leagues.
Of course not......however they are always comparing the new USA teams to the '92 Dream Teams because people always tune in to see what they say. If you want to comparisons to stop, you can do your part by not reading any articles or watching any programs that mention it. Is it really that complicated a concept?
A) I have not read any articles on the matter but no they are out there. B) I have not turned into any programs that warned me they would discuss this matter. Last but not least I'm not Mrs. Cleo so no I can't prepare for NBC to randomly start talking about The Dream TEAM vs. This Spain Team.
