Let's been fair, Rick is a good coach, this has been proven by him taking the Blazers to the final twice, and Kings' playing fabulous basketball. My problem with Rick is that he is not a control-mind coach, too laid back. That was fine with veteran leaders like Buck Williams, Divac, etc, but this Rockets team isn't like that, there is no leader on this team, someone who has been there, and very vocal, but that's not Rick. I hate to say this, but JVG provides that kind of determination & leadership this team desperately needs, too bad, he cannot coach offense. Even with his liability of offensive coaching, the players knew their role, and what they were asked to do. Rick is not the answer to this team, just as JVG was not the answer. I don't know who is available, but we need a coach who is very demanding, and discipline, and more importantly, can coach both aspects of the game.
personality, communication skills. nothing, ra is a precisian, maybe a good director, but not a good coach. He doesnot know how to coach rockets. Did he ever say it's on me? never heard of that.
These threads our based on emotion and not logic. These are vent threads,This team with any of your Christmas list coaches would be going through the same struggles rick is having right now. All those great mystery coaches would have the same difficult task as adelman trying to play without 2 starters for weeks at a time,Not knowing who was going to play each game,You guys would be making suck threads about them as well.
Trying to get a shotgun offense going with triple option players. Trying to get a power hitting ball club to bunt and steal bases. Either get the players you need or get the right coach. This is looking more Phoenix Suns like. Slow style forced into some fast style or vice versa, trying to fix their previous biggest weaknesses but not really, marquee names mixed in just because, owner committed to staying under the luxury tax.
Not really. I'm not talking about tonight's game, or last couple of games. My problem with Rick is the way he coaches vs. the current Rockets roster. Coaching is just like manage a team in a corporation, I'm sure many here have management experience in your respective profession. A team consists of all kinds of employees, a good manager treats each of them differently, e.g., new graduates usually need more directions, so micro-management style is preferred; for more experienced workers, you usually just need to give them the tasks, and leave them along. This group of Rockets are just like your average teams in a corporation, only none of them can work independently, all of them need clear direction, so a firm micro-management is more desired. Unfortunately, Rick is not that type of coach. If you rewind back to the JVG time, every single player knew what the coach needed from him, they knew if they didn't do it, they would get a ear full of s**t from JVG. Too bad, the guy just couldn't coach offense.
Agreed. How a team with a good 7-6 Center, Ron Artest, and Shane Battier allows 100 points night in night out is mind boggling. I really thought this would be our year. Rick just isnt a fit
rick is a good coach, no doubt. but this is not his type of team. the best players on this team cannot run his system to the fullest. rafer and brooks love him of course
I think Yao is the Problem with Adelman's offense, he's constantly tryin to get a post up position, constantly moving, then he gets a baby screen tht hardly bumps his man off him, he has to kick it out, and if the player misses he has to run all the way down court, i think he just gets too fatigued in Adelman's offense and it doesn't suit his game...when we took him out things clicked much better, but when he's in its a struggle to get him te ball
Why pray tell would T-Mac's teammates be telling him he needs to get his act together if it's a health issue? Are they going to yell at his knee to heal faster? If on the other hand he's being a slacker then it makes sense to corner him and tell him he needs to play hard--which is apparently what both the players and coaches have done. T-Mac had 3 or 4 years in Toronto and wore out his welcome. He had 3 or 4 years in Orlando and wore out his welcome. Now his own teammates are telling him to get his act together after five in Houston. What's more, T-Mac has no history of success in Houston. He's never gotten past the first round, period. If getting rid of him means the Rockets don't get past the first round of the playoffs, who cares? That's exactly what keeping him means. What's more if the big three can't learn how to share the ball the Rockets are doomed. Dominating the ball means they're not sharing it with each other, much less the rest of the team. Magic had it right. T-Mac/Yao hasn't worked out in Houston. It's time to try something else.
