If you guys can bring yourselves to it, take a look at this.

    jazz fan forum http://pub76.ezboard.com/fnotmesutahjazzfrm1,

they are saying some interesting things overthere:

*(One poster, after hearing that a trade will be made for meech, though the player had not been named):
So we are trading him for a case of beer and the rights to a preschooler to be named later?

*So in other words, they'll take him off our hands for a second round pick, if we'll pay part/most/all? of his salary this year. GOOD RIDDANCE!!!!

*I'm gonna miss the big guy... : lol

*1280 reported is it meech for rice and an un-named draft pick. Also stated that the jazz will likely cut rice....

it's way too early to blast this trade. if we can turn the $6.5M exception into something else then we got a great deal. signing jackson was something ALOT of people wanted and it got done.

How the heck was it good to get rid of the 1st round pick.

These days anything past 10 = Eurpoean Lotto. if you don't like the player, let him develop and then wait and see. So it wasn't an automatic guaranteed contract unlee your scouting sucks and picks Bosjtian Nachbar. Hmmm...

Also, with so many Euros, a 17th pick is the equivalent of a 10-12 player slipping.

The 1st round pick was thrown is just to save money.

And John Amechi was cheap? $2.8 million of sh*t is still sh*t.

How dare you use logic and common sense! :)

Isn't it better that everyone just continue to go apesh!t now even though the season hasn't even started yet and we don't know how many more moves could be in the works?

The odds that Rice would be injured this year were HIGH. Especially after having to go through JVG's workout schedule. His knees would not have held up to the grind. No less than tendenitis, ACL at worst.

Given that, we would have been paying part of 9 mil for nothing except next year's salary cushion. we get that with the 6.5 mil exception.

If the first round pick we gave is in the 20's, then it is a wash for a seconder that is not guaranteed money.

Rice + high 1st rounder + conditional 2nd for Meech, Jackson + 6.5 mil exception is not bad, IMHO.

    Need more details.

Ditto that to Batman, 2K and TJ.

What's the problem here? We've got breathing room again and a quite decent hustler.

QUESTION: *IF* Rice is cut . . .. would we want him back for the 1 mil exception?

[We *can* do this right. . .like how Augman went back to Portland after we cut him following the B*TCHEN PIPPEN DEAL ]

We gave up a 1st round pick to get rid of an expiring contract.

    That's idiotic

but...what if we aint done yet?

I realize for a pessimist like you it doesnt seem likely, but we have alot of duplicate players that could be packaged with the exemption for someone else.

and as I noted earlier, as good as we should be this year, the difference in talent level between our first and Utah's second isnt going to be that much...realistically.

    Reserve judgment.

I'll be worried if something doesn't happen fast though, since a move like this should prompt immediate action on whatever front the Rockets' are pursuing.

    1. 1. Rice would have gotten specialist 3 point duty. JVG wouldn't hand him minutes "just because". No point there.

2.We could have signed those guys to the minimum before, which is what we'd be doing now.

      3. yeah, there's a big market for amechi.

      4. makes no sense there. we wern't over the lux tax threshold yet, if there is indeed going to be a lux tax this year.

      5. the added length and flexibilty of the exception is the ONLY benefit of this trade.

      6. Getting the exception doesn't mean we're going to be able to jettison all our bad contracts.

      7. this deal doesn't really do much to alleviate that. And who says that is what kept them from pulling triggers on any trades.

      baseless.

All they're talking about is luxury tax and you think they're just setting us up for another trade? Yeah ok. Open your eyes.

it;s a shame really...you seem so reasonable in person.

Hmm...have to be a bit like SLA here and change my mind...for me, it all depends on what happens with the trade exception. If it somehow lands us a big name player (Artest, SAR, etc.) - great. If we never use it - damn you Les.

I too think this trade is pretty sour. But the first round pick thing isn't as bad as you may say.... I dont know what year those picks are for but think about it.... Utah is going to be the WORST team in the league for a long time... Their 2nd rounders are going to be almost 1st round picks just on the edge... so we'll have 2 30th picks for one of our 1st round picks which would be around 20th? Not a bad deal there...

But I do feel that we could have gotten more for Rice...

You mean when the Rockets tried to pass off crappy a** Adrian and Griffin and Piatkowski as a James Posey equivalent?

What were everyone's words? They're not finished yet. Just wait.

Yeah. They weren't finished. We still had too much contract.

Admit it. This is not about winning. It's about money.
