We dont give a damn about Amaechi, or Rice. Neither are going to get any minutes with the Rockets this year. Thanks for the 6.5mill which will enable us to get a real contributor. Let the Jazz have the freaking pick, I think that we are young enough as is. I want the Rockets to get better by adding Vets, which we have been doing. Not to mention there are no vets that want to go to Utah.....(so they didnt really have a choice)except for maybe Van Horn, and you can have that piece of crap too!

Your team is garbage.
I admire your, um, myopia for talking smack on a Rockets board about the 2003 Jazz.... All I can say about the upcoming seasons is "ouch!" Schwa, I'm not going to point out that Utah has never and will never won a championship, that even free agents like Andre Miller with ties to Utah won't come to Salt Lake City, or that the Jazz have a real shot at being the worst team in NBA history this year. No, rather than point any of this out, I will say that from the trade is good from the Rockets perspective becasue they can used the money to sign one of the best bench players in the league in Jimmy Jackson and gave themselves cap and trade flexibility to add more talent to a team that has a bright future. See, no flaming necessary. Have a nice day.
I wasn't flaming anyone. I however would like to point out that if Jim Jackson is such a good bench player, Houston should have signed him at the start of last year when he was looking for a job. He could have easily been had for league minimum. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20 right? I'm glad Ameachi is gone. From Utah's perspective, we "used" cap room that wasn't going to get used anyway, got free picks for it, and we tossed Ameachi. Couldn't have gone better.
Is it just me or has there NEVER been a big named free agent that had utah on their "final list". I mean you hear Houston on alot of guys list at least. We may not have landed many well unless you count francis since he demanded a trade and was pretty much a free agent by virtue of the fact he had all of the power. Utah may end up being in vancovers situation next year too.. I will laugh all the way back to houston if the draft pick demands to be traded.. Meanwhile we'll be getting a vet and don't have to worry about rice.. I personally don't care if Utah does or not, as long as i dont. Isn't it sad that UTAH was FORCED to do this because they'll be under the minimum salary... and why you ask.. oh because nobody wants to go there. Even when you had Malone and Stockboy you couldn't attract free agents or you'd have won a ring. Well Mailman will probably get his but luckily for us it won't be in Utah. Have fun with you team of nobodies. Mike
I think JVG will revitalize Amaechi's career. Amaechi was a nice player while with Orlando, but faltered in Utah's structured pick-and-roll system because Malone was pretty much the only post player allowed to touch the ball. All Amaechi was told to do was screen and pass, and that likely frustrated him. I think he'll prove to be a good asset to the team as a low post scorer and bruiser.
I think you guys are dead wrong on Amaechi. I think he will prove to be a serviceable banger backing up both PF and C now that he is out of Sloan's doghouse. He had a couple good years with Orlando before the Siberia of the Jazz. Hopefully, he is re-dedicated and has something to prove after being sprung from that gulag.
Amaechi scored well while he was with the Magic but isn't a good rebounder or defender.Sloan encourages his players to play dirty but he doesn't tolerate softies either. Amaechi got himself into the doghouse. He needs to have a positive attitude and play hard on both ends or else JVG will have him sitting on the bench as well.
You're kidding right? I watched this guy airball a 7 foot jumper. I watched him shoot 37% from the field. There's a lot of things you guys don't know about John Ameachi. Let me fill you in. He eats too much. He was spotted all over town at restaurants eating anything in sight. Thusly, his sizable posterior He has no feeling in his shooting hand. He cut his hand once and now he can't feel anything in that hand. It really affects his shot and his ability to hold on to the ball He has no love for the game of basketball. He's very open about this fact. He plays it because he can make good money doing it. He has no desire to work hard except to get paid. If he has a good season anytime again it will be next year when he is playing for a contract. So for those shortsighted dimwits who think Ameachi will suddenly amaze the basketball world under Van Gundy, think again. The odds are greater that Jeff will have his car blown off the tarmac again.
There's a lot of things you don't know about Amaechi too. He has a life outside of basketball. He treats it *gasp*, like a job. He works hard in practice, and has other priorities in his life. He was open with the Jazz about this from the start. He enjoys basketball, but realises it is his profession, not his life. He is articulate, intelligent, and well-rounded. He has loyalty and integrity (see the Lakers contract offer). He didn't get on at Utah, but I won't hold that against him. I don't think I would either. Your comments about him eating too much are the first time I have heard anyone say anything about him being unprofessional. Even if he plays no minutes, I'm glad he's a Rocket. He's the sort of man that I'm happy having on our squad.
I really could not give a crap about the stupid pics or Amechei, (don't care how I spelled it). . . JJackson will most likely be a decent addition to the team since he's a good swingman, 2/3 we finally will have a 'real' small forward. I assume he will start, I actually think that is a good lineup for us somewhat, it does give us some leeway when we play teams like the LA, the Wolves, and SA we won't be as undersized. JJ is strong as can d-up, he can pass shot and defend, doesn't turn the ball over, and above all else he is and intelligent ball-player, something our team lacks. I will miss Glenn's shooting, but not his contract, frankly above all else this move shocked me, he'd finally began being the player we needed him to be (leader-vet, shooter, basically healthy-ect) then we trade him- alas that's the business. I felt kinda sad for him, cuz I think he wanted to finish his career here, I like he said he was shocked. But I think he will land on his feet, and let's not forget these guys are all millionares. He might even land in SA or Sacremento or somewhere like that. All in all I don't care about Ameche, because he wasn't the focus of the deal, if we win games I don't care, this won't make us worse at all, something will happen TRADEwise before the allstar break anyway most likely, we just have to WAIT and see. Bottom line we already Have talent whether you guys wanna admit or not, it just might not be Shaq talent OKAY, but who is? So just chill the F out for right now, the season has not even started, and you don't know what they are planning, you'll all your chance to complain and so will I after game 1.
Yup, and must be nice to be happy about having a professional athelete who claims to only get more fit as he grows older walk into training camp with man-boobs.
Does anyone think Amaechi is any better than Jason Collier? Not much difference in those two except that Collier can play the 4...can Amaechi?
Amaechi can't play at the 4 spot.Collier was slow on the floor but could get some rebounds and even occasionally tried to get physical in the paint. Amaechi might be able to score a bit more than Collier but he hasn't done anything for a long time. I don't think he can be a effective backup for Yao.
So I wonder what the reaction would have been if we had traded Rice and 2 conditional 1st round picks for Jason Collier and a Sac 2nd round pic and a 6.5 mil trade exception / How about if we had just traded Rice and the 2 conditional 1st round picks for just the 6.5 million trade exception and the Sac 2nd round pick?
