The funny thing about that is most of those quotes are from Han Solo. That made me realize what a good character he was. My favorite Star Wars characters: Darth Vader, Han Solo, Yoda, Qui Gon Jin, Darth Maul I don't like Luke; I think he sucks... C3PO and R2 also get old after a while.
interesting...the key protagnist in the original trilogy is among the most stale characters in the entire series. portrayed by an actor who left a lot to be desired. but these sorts of things are overlooked in the original series...and lesser things are beaten down in the newer movies.
I loved it. Saw it at a DLP theater, which was friggin awesome. Easily top 3 Star Wars flick. Maybe top 2.
In Ep 4-6 I got the impression that the IDEA of JEDIs was a LONG DEAD RELIGION People acted like they Jedi died out EONS ago [like Zeus worshippers or something] Rocket River
My 5 year old son and my 3 year old daughter both watched it with my wife and I twice. No nightmares. But the demons on LOTR trilogy didn't bother them either. We just explain that it's only make believe, before and after... As for all the knitpicking in this thread, you guys all need to rewatch the entire series, all the questions are there in the dialogue and the action.
20 something years CAN make something seem like "long gone." Just think... 20 something years ago, compact discs were just a novelty, and you likely bought all your music on cassette tape. Or, 20 something years ago, there was no internet. What if somebody told you today to go to the local library to research the archives of a news story.... you would say, "Doing that is a long and dead idea.... I'd rather google it." I think by the time episode 4 comes around, the empire has done almost everything to erase people's minds about how the old republic was, and what the jedis did for them. It also helped that they sold the public that the Jedi were treasonous.
Just got back. What a movie. Well worth the wait. Hard to rank it higher than 4 or 5 but it was great in almost every respect.
Just got back from the movie. This one is way better than Phantom or Clones. Some really nice light saber fights, as well as a nice set of conversions for Palpatine and Anakin. Interestingly, the same guy plays the Emperor in this movie as in the originals. I didn't know that going in. I kept waiting for Mark Hamill to make a cameo but it never happened.
After watching episode 3, it's obvious that Anakin in his prime is 100x more powerful than Luke in his prime. Hell, even Obi-Wan can kick Luke's ass easily.
I quite liked Luke... I mean, he is the main character of the original trilogy. To a great extent it's his story. I guess Mark Hamill isn't a great actor, but I can't really put another face to the character of Luke Skywalker. He was decen enough for me in that role. TJ, I also didn't notice that. I figured the guy who played the emperor in the original must have been way too old. I guess they saved on making the guy up at times, he had naturally aged..
Trivia: Ian McDirmand was originally in ROTJ, but not ESB. With the new DVD releases, Lucas re-did the Emperors conversation with Vader in Empire to digitally insert McDirmand. He was 39 years old when he portrayed the Emperor in Return of the Jedi. Evan
IN the words of the incomparable Christopher Walken....WOW...WOWY-WOW Let me preface by apologizing to all the "Empire" devotee's who still believe that movie to be the best of the entire series...Revenge Of The Sith was a better movie than Empire--I don't care how dedicated you are to the original. It was darker, the betrayal was deeper and the action more dramatic. The biggest difference? Empire had the better acting and script. I know I'll be flamed--just MY opinion!
ya know what....i can see that. i'm not there yet. i need to see the movie about a million more times before i get there. but i can see how you would say that.
To me, better acting and script is hard to beat. Sith has better effects, but that can be entirely attributed to the available technology. I really liked the movie, but I don't think it compares favorably to Empire. Not that that's a big knock, Empire was the probably the greatest sci-fi movie of all time.
