Here's something I've been tossing around w/ my friends...

Does anybody think it would have been better if Darth Maul was Sidious' only apprentice up until III..meaning Obi Wan beat him (but didnt kill him) in Ep I, but Maul got the better of him and Anakin in Ep II...and then Anakin finally killing him in Ep III... that would give greater weight and depth to his character not to mention the fact that Maul was a helluva lot better Sith than Dooku (who for me, just didnt seem intimidating enough, something was missing there..just can't put my finger on what it is). Plus its seems like the Emperor goes through A LOT of apprentices...so it just seems like it would provide a better flow and continuity to the storyline if Maul stayed his apprentice. Then you could have Count Dooku filling the role as Syfa Dious...as an ex-Jedi who was in league w/ Sidious and ordered the clone army but died around Phantom Menace.

Dude, If this movie hasn't taught you this, your life should. Only the love for your woman can turn you to the dark side. They are evil I tell you!

I agree completely. Darth Maul was the man and I was a little pissed that he got killed so quick in Episode I. He was actually the only thing I liked about Episode I.

I wholeheartedly agree. After watching clones, my first complaint was that the characters changed too much. With the originals, Darth Vader was the bad guy all the way through. It made the stories flow better. You knew exactly who you didnt like and you had a reason too. I loved Darth Maul as a character and wish he would have had a much bigger role in the new trilogy. Oh well.

    That's what I'm saying, JYD!

Darth Maul was the coolest character in the new trilogy, and he gets, what....one line and two fight scenes? WEAK....

If I had made the new trilogy, I personally would have started the story in episode II with a young Jedi Anakin, have ROTS as episode II (the middle chapter of a trilogy is usually the darkest), then have episode III with a young Darth Vader battling against Obi-Wan and Yoda...

And here's one other thing... Ive been back and forth on whether Ep II should be the first, w/ Clone Wars as Ep II and ROTS as III...but at the very least...I think what would have made the trilogy again flow better and give it better continuity is if Hayden was in all three movies and Anakin was older and about the same age as Padme....that way...he would be only a few years younger than Luke when he started his training (thereby giving somewhat more credibility I think to the "he's too old argument" even though Jedi basically start training as babies). Also by having him the same age as Padme you could plant the seeds of their love story in the first one, allowing more time for their relationship to develop..which would actually parellel the Han/Leia storyline in the OT...since that took two episodes to fully develop. Plus having Hayden in the first as well, that would bring Phantom Menace closer to the other two. As it is, even though I like all three...Phantom Menace remains too seperate (at times) from Ep II and III. Plus, Hayden is a way better actor than Jake Lloyd.

I thought Jake Lloyd did a pretty decent job, considering he was carrying the weight of millions of Star Wars geeks on his 9 year old shoulders...

lol... well I use the term loosely for him.

and yeah I agree there A-Train... after watchin Menace numerous times now, he doesnt come off too bad, especially considering the other two finalists for Anakin (they were horrendous!). And the dialouge certianly didnt give him much to work w/ at times.

Jedi had a solid script. The problem with that movie was Carrie Fisher was coked up during filming and seemed lifeless in her scenes with Luke and Han(at least she looked good in the bikini).

There were some corny lines in the Holy Trilogy, mostly in ANH. But this idea that the writing sucked in every SW film is just wrong. There were plenty of great lines in the original 3 films:

    Star Wars -
"Alright, shut up. Shutting up, sir."
"I find your lack of faith disturbing."
"Mos Eisley spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."
"I suggest a new strategy, R2. Let the Wookiee win."
    "I don't know. I can imagine quite a bit."
    "No reward is worth this."
    "I don't know, you think a princess and a guy like me....NO."
"Evacuate in our moment of triumph. I think you overestimate their chances."
"You're all clear, kid. Now let's blow this thing and go home."

    The Empire Strikes Back -
"I'd just as soon kiss a Wookiee. I can arrange that. You could use a good kiss!"
"Then I'll see you in hell!"
"I thought they smelled bad on the outside."
    "Laugh it up, fuzzball."
"Would it help if I got out and pushed? It might."
"Captain, being held by you isn't quite enough to get me excited. Sorry sweetheart, I haven't got time for anything else."
    "Apology accepted, Captain Needa."
    "I love you. I know."
    "Impressive. Most impressive."

    Return of the Jedi -
"The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am."
"If I told you half the things I've heard about this Jabba the Hutt, you'd probably short circuit."
    "Hey, it's me."
"Great, Chewie. Always thinking with your stomach."
"Well why don't you use your divine influence and get us out of this?"
"Not bad for a little furball."

i can think of good lines from this new movie...and i can think of corny lines from this new movie.

i can do the same with EVERY star wars movie. these don't have Good Will Hunting type scripts. i loved the original trilogy far more than these new ones...but i think the new ones are unfairly rapped because they could NEVER possibly live up to the standard of the old movies, simply because of what those old movies meant to move-making history.

by the way...a lot of the lines you quote there aren't very special from a script-writing viewpoint. "impressive, most impressive" is a line i use quite often..but i don't think it's Oscar-worthy! :D and a good number of the lines you quoted were to Han Solo, maybe the best of all of the star wars characters for pure entertainment.

I guess the movie was pretty good despite the cheesy lines (which I scoffed at during them happening)

Natalie is so damn hot. I've been mesmerized by her since Garden State.
