I agree with most of what you say. Actually, it's pretty much what I think about it. I was pissed off that Padme died due to being sad seeing that she was having CHILDREN. I mean, where is this woman's maternal instinct?!?!? Seriously, why didn't she stay alive to be with the only part of the true Anakin (the kids) still around? Also, the dialogue was terrible at times. Obi wan was the only one who actually had some decent lines and emotion. I agree about Palpatine's words... don't know how that was convincing in any way. It was meant to be the tragedy of Anakin... I saw it more as the tragedy of Obi wan failing and losing his brother, and the disappearance of the Jedi Order. That's what's tragic to me as it had more emotion. The Operation 66 sequence was amazing, as you mentioned. I never felt any grief when Anakin turned. I didn't see a young, good guy being turned to something evil. I kinda found him annoying throughout and Palpatine didn't come up with some great plot to turn him. Disappointing. I still watched in excitement and can't wait to see it again!
i really liked this movie!!! the violence was overhyped. other than the scene of anakin burning, i don't think this was any more violent than the scenes from the "gladiator" style battle in Ep. 2.
Just saw this movie last night and I thought it was just as big a turd as the first two. I mean, there was plenty of stuff that was just laughable. My favorite lines: 1. "Not if anything to say about it I have!" 2. "Noooo!!!" 3. "Anakin, hold me... hold me like you did on Naboo!" 4. "Palpatine is evil!" "From MY point of view, the JEDI are evil!!" There was just so much absolute cringe-worthy stuff throughout. Ha ha
I think the dialogue is much like it's been in every single Star Wars movie. We tend to look back on the original trilogy with rose-colored glasses...but the writing in there was corny, as well. And often just as whiny.
Here's what I don't understand... OK, Anakin comes back and Amidala says she's pregnant, then has the twins at the end of the movie...so either 8 1/2 months or so pass between the beginning and end of the movie or Luke and Leia are born REALLY premature, which they didn't look when they were born...Or maybe he knocked her up and was gone for 8 months or so, which would mess up the whole "keeping the pregnancy a secret" thing...or perhaps all that force energy causes Luke and Leia to develop faster than normal? oh well, I guess this stuff is minor details compared to some of the mack-truck sized plotholes in the entire Star Wars saga. Personally, I thought the entire new trilogy was cool, cheesy dialog aside. The original trilogy didn't exactly have best original screenplay material in it...
didn't think of that. but let me say...picking holes in stuff like this in a science fiction movie seems silly to me. i'm not saying that's what you're doing...but i've seen it here. it starts with the premise that it happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. soooo...reality is already suspended. i don't know the gestational processes or timeline for fetal development among those who live in that galaxy.
Just curious... how do you know that? My take on the Sith is similar to Crisco's. It's by far the best of the last three, but not as good as any of the first three, although it would approach Jedi if it had been blessed with a halfway decent script. How Lucas can do so little with so much is amazing.
How would that mess it up? I didnt really think the timetable they laid out was all that unbelievable.
Well, you think that SOMEBODY would notice that she was getting fat and might be suspicious... You can't tell me you didn't wonder how she managed to go through almost an entire pregnancy in what seemed like a week in movie time... ...but, like MadMax says, it is a galaxy far, far away...
I completely agree with you. Anakin's loyalty was to Padme.. the Jedi aren't allowed to have personal relationships/marry for that exact reason.. his love for Padme drove him to do terrible, selfish things that eventually landed him on the dark side (the emperor exploited his love for padme as his only weakness). Once there, his inner feelings about how the world should be ran (dictatorships, he's always right, make people agree, etc) and his desire for power became his all consuming mission.
Maybe her lookalikes and handmaidens and whatnot were in on the secret and helped her out. Who knows, those gowns she wears are pretty big..
Well it's his fear of loosing Padme, not his love her, that drives him to the darkside. Yoda spoke about attachments...
exactly! i thought that was one of the most interesting points of the whole movie...when Yoda talked about death as natural...and then Palpatine explained to Anakin that some of the powers of the dark side were seen to be "unnatural."
