Yeah he's not showing to be that good of a manager so far. Should have pulled Feldman much earlier then he did. I just counted the Astros have score more then 4 runs 11 times so far this year. With competent starting pitching, not great just competent, the team would have one of the better records in the league right now. Frustrating and a mistake by the front office going into this year with the only big addition being Giles choking ass.
From now on i will look at games differently, this is a young team, with a bad manager, and a very bad rotation. I just want to see the young guys develop (Springer, Correa, White, Devinski), Moran, Reed, Hoyt, Feliz to the majors and see what they can do. McCullers, save his arm, not in the majors until All Star, if 100 percent ready. Trade Gomez, give the cf job to Marisnick and see what he can do. Give Gattis a lot of games at catcher to see if he is capable there and be our starting catcher next year. If we don't expect the team to win, if they lose we don't as we are looking for other things.
Finally, this team needed 13 pitchers as our rotation is second worse in the AL. Many number 4-5 starters pitching 5 or less innings. Houston, we have a problem
So Giles didn't have a good spring training and Hinch threw him out onto the mound this year regardless to get pounded on...send him back to triple A to get his s-h-i-t together Hinch..Giles confidence is probably shot by now along with a pissed off dugout..oh and put Dev into the lineup and remove Fieldman, Fields, Friers or Pfister..take your pick Let's not forget the obvious ...Astros give up 3 runs AGAIN in the 1st 3 innings. This time adding 3 errors..that's a wrap
I'm not sure if these numbers are updated from today's game or not, but regardless, our defense has not been as good this year. I'm honestly not sure why, but it's just another factor in our bad start. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/fielding
Three f***** errors. THREE! 3 Then Giles. Dude surrendered 4 baserunners in ONE damn inning! Unbelievable, yet so believable At least we have another opportunity tonight @SEA.
altuve had 5 errors in 162 games last season. he got 2 in one game yesterday. baseball gods are pushing back hard to derail 2016. Though the FML pitching staff of Feldman fiers and fister leaves a lot to be desired, the errors are coming at the worst timing possible. they need all the help they can get. goal should be to get to .500 by the all star break.
not that he will help, but what is stassi's status? can we assume since they are messing around with gattis at catcher that he's probably not coming back for quite awhile?
That and the potential DH glut... but White/Tucker are certainly doing their best (or worst) to alleviate that.
While disappointing, this start shouldn't be overly surprising... I think too many fans let their emotion/excitement overwhelm their expectations and blind them to the team's many issues. I think they'll be OK, longer term. But the team ignored (or were unable to address) too many of its weaknesses this winter and, well - we're seeing the fruits of it.
Starting pitching regression should have been on the radar... maybe not to the extreme level it has thus-far, but to me that was the #1 factor (on paper) that had room to decline (and with them leading the league in starters ERA last year, there was really only one way for it to go). The offensive struggles are magnified by Correa showing some hiccups, Gattis slow to get back, and Gomez being completely worthless.... but its still got more promise/production possibilities than their starting rotation sans McCullers.
Is Vegas a fan too? Too many players are underperforming, namely pitching. Too many baserunning mistakes... Too many errors... Astros are killing themselves.
I forget which strikeout it was because of the black tar heroin I injected, but at one point, Gomez had maybe a 1-2 count and he kept fouling off pitches. Hanigan went to the mound and said something to the pitcher (Barnes or Tazawa?) then of course Gomez struck out swinging - more like flailing - on the very next pitch. Don't you know Hanigan said something like "Dude...what are you doing? Just throw the change-up again and he'll swing. I promise."
Of course he does But saying Hinch needs to send him to the minors was a main part of the post I was responding to, and that certainly isn't Hinchs responsibility Hinch isn't running a very disciplined team and it is killing us, but the makeup of the roster and how aggressive we are and stuff like that is Luhnow and the organizations strategy
4 games back with 143 left to play So yea, we have plenty of opportunities left, the Rangers were more than 4 games back mid summer last year and won it It's not the record that bothers me, it's the undisciplined base running and terrible defense.....just giving away some games
