Reds were basically conceding the loss tonight throwing out Hoover with a 11+ era for 2 innings To many failed situations with risp. Story of the season
Serious question: what OFer is available? High OBP, power doesn't really matter, can play defense somewhere tolerably, preferably not a K-machine.
Neshek has been good. Sometimes it's just on the players to perform not what if we put somebody else in what would he have done. We should have more than 2 runs.
They haven't given Kemp enough playing time to see if he can offer something close to this. He doesn't have much power but appears he could possible fit these categories. Why have him up here if they aren't going to see what they have in him before the trade deadline.
What is the advantage of shifting against righties? Especially when you have a right handed pitcher that works off the plate?
I've don't have much faith in Neshek. Guess since last year with all of those blown games down the stretch I just get nervous when he comes in with the game on the line. I agree though that the offense if the biggest culprit tonight.
problem is, Rasmus (and Gomez, for that matter) will always get treated with kid gloves, and never get benched for any extended period of time. neither kemp nor worth will ever get much of a shot to help the team. playing time on the astros ain't a meritocracy. and i'm repeating this ad nauseam, but gattis and castro's only value is playing 9th and catching, with only 1 being in the lineup on a given day. if you're using them any other way, the rest of your lineup likely has major problems.
Rasmus and Gomez if I'm not mistaken are the team's highest paid position players so that may have a lot to do with it. They shouldn't be getting as much playing time as they do but because of their salary they keep sending them out there over the first part of the season. Gomez has done better lately but still overall is a subpar everyday player. I agree about Gattis and Castro as well. The front office has some work to do with seeing what they can do to get this lineup respectable. In the mean time they need to start seeing what they have in Kemp, and some of the other top prospects like Reed and Bregman.
