Well we got him for Kevin Cash and he's been pretty good so far, don't think he can keep it up but he won't need to since Tommy will be back
Yea, like I said, I thought it was a fine deal. But I don't think it was anything shrewd on the part of Wade. Pretty much a no-brainer. Wade deserves loads of credit for Myers and a couple of other deals but this one was standard GM fare as far as I'm concerned.
Remember the girl that freaked out when Ichiro touched her? It was like somebody at a Michael Jackson concert.
True but Pence was a .376 OBP in the minors with a much, much higher BB rate. CJ was a paltry .310... about as bad as I've seen when scouring minor league stats for ML players. Although CJ was much better over his last 2+ seasons.
I think CJ wants to hit a homerun when he sees those Crawford boxes instead of trying to drive it...that's just what I think
I've said it a few times but for CJ to stick at this level, he's going to need to translate his slugging ability. I don't think his defensive ability or on-base skills will get it done. The good thing is he should finally get every chance in the world to prove himself. It's not like the Towles situation where he plays such a crucial role that he has little room for error.
slightly off-topic, but i don't see why people are worried about Wade mishandling the impending (hopefully) oswalt trade. as far as i'm concerned, matsui was the only awful acquisition he's made since he's been here, but as far as trades go, he's never really gotten the short end of the stick on any of them. josh anderson was a nothing, all those players sent for tejada were nothings, getting bourn back for lidge was a success, valverde trade was probably one of the best trades in baseball over the past 5 years, the matt lindstrom trade is certainly looking good, and it's already impossible to lose out on the sanchez trade. i'm sure i'm missing one or two, feel free to list them. and all that is under the watchful, stubborn, meddling, overbearing eye of uncle drayton. feliz was a stupid signing, but he only committed a year to him. the whole world thought lyons was an awful signing, and now they have teams inquiring about him at the trade deadline. the guy has been a good gm, and gets little to no credit, and constant unjust bashing.
Again, to put it in numbers, I think a reasonable max AVG/OBP/SLG would be something around .275/.325/.450. It could be considerably worse but I wouldn't expect it to be much better. If he can hit those numbers, that would be very good. A mid to high .700s OPS with average-at-best defense would make him a slightly above average 3B at this level.
I've criticized him plenty in the past but I was probably drinking too much of the nerd-based haterade. Over the last several months, I've just decided to shut my trap like I should've done all along. I'm not saying I'm sold on his abilities, just that I am not knowledgable enough to pass judgment. That's why I created the Ed Wade thread... to try to get input from both sides of the fence.
