After that tail-whooping they put on us in Boston, I expect better things. It's the little things, like an offense, that make the difference. Add them all up and...
I am glad that Gordon was the one sent down because he has simply not been good But with Blubaugh sent down 5 days ago, now neither can be brought back up for 10+ days unless there is another injury. It really limits potential SP if Arrighetti and/or Javier can't pitch at least 5 innings each or need extra recovery time with only 1 off day in the next 2 weeks, and 2 in the next 4. Even WITH them this roster now only has 5 SP and they can't come back if a 6th SP is needed until 21st. I would have kept Blubaugh and sent Gordan down when Spencer was activated. Start him today on 5 days rest Option him to start Javier tomorrow. Move everybody back 1 day. Everybody gets 1 extra day of rest this turn. Brown doesn't have to start Wednesday on 4 days rest.
None of these guys are ready right now... its still basically spring training in terms of ramp up. But if you want them to be good in September/October... you need to suffer through these lumps in August. Hell, Javier rarely threw first pitch strikes even before he was injured or fatigued.... he's got similar issues with LMJ in terms of efficiency.
They are on track to get up to 5 pitchers back at the end of this week in Garcia, Dubin, France, Rooney, and Blubaugh. And they have a fresh low leverage arm they can abuse in Enyel De Los Santos. But yeah they put themselves in a tight spot if Javier and Arrighetti don’t average 4+ innings over the next 2 games. But one thing to note is that both Miguel Ullola and Jose Fleury will require 40 man protection in November, so it is reasonable to expect they are in the mix for a callup if needed, especially Ullola.
I want Mrlton to play and succeed but unless they sit Smith 50% of the time vs RHSP, or they are souring on Trammell I don't see playing time for him. I love it if he plays
As sad as you made me the entire trading season trying to get rid of Ullola it's kinda making me horny that you keep talking about bringing him up this year. Just saying.
So we have had Pena in a new never before seen stratosphere of hitting for a few months now. We have a red hot Altuve and a really good Walker right now. Add to that a resurgent Correa who is quickly trying to put behind him what was going to be a lost season in Minnesota. That's 4 excellent bats. If we get back vintage Yordan, that's 5 bats. Sanchez is an above average bat. So at this point you just need 3 decent to average bats. That's Diaz, Meyers (hopefully) and Caratini/Dubon. Imagine being able to have a Sanchez batting 8th. That's hopefully where we are headed by the end of August.
Hummel was DFA so Melton will be either the starting CF or the bench OF. I expect Melton to be on the playoff roster because of his baserunning value. But I don’t like burning his service time the way they have this season. Until Meyers comes back I like the idea of Trammell/McCormick in a CF platoon with Melton as a defensive sub for Altuve in LF along with pinch hitting and pinch running duties.
Hummel is gone. Trammell gets a good conduct medal and is gone either now or when Yordan or Meyers come back. Chas is gone when the other comes back. Ha! imagine both of them coming back. Dubon gets traded next offseason when Paredes is back and the entire team is healthy. Which, yeah, will likely never happen.
Ready for what? I'm thinking Walker, lol. Although he has a different set of problems tonight. Oh yeah Javier. Well maybe we can rely on our good friend the law of averages and just believe we can't have 2 duds from returning starters.
It doesn't really matter in the sense that he's not a super 2 in all likelihood. Also, they can keep him down all of 26 and all of 27 if they are even reasonably healthy. Not that they would, but they could. Unless he goes really well or Yordan or Jake is unplayable going forward, yeah... he becomes break glass in case of emergency.
I can't wrap my head around all this turnover about to take place for the pitching staff. So we have 8 relief spots. Only 7 if we go 6 man rotation. Brown, Valdez, Arrighetti, Javier, Garcia, France you think would all be safe and potentially be in a 6 man rotation. Hader, Abreu, Sousa, King, Okert, Dubin (hopefully) you think would be 6 safe relief spots. So only 1 spot remaining. Walter, Alexander, Ort, Neris, Rooney, De Los Santos. Blubaugh. My guess it would have to be Walter if he returns. Gives you more flexibility with your starters with so many question marks.
