Are people really complaining about this? I was going to make a comment last night that he's been playing way too much for somebody his age, with lingering hand soreness/etc. Yes, he's vital to the success of this team on every given day... but he's 34 years old and we've seen regressing metrics defensively and offensively that are either both age related and/or fatigue related. I do understand that a lot of these decisions have been made out of necessity due to the injuries (hence why Dubon is also playing way too much), but going forward he either needs off days or more DH days. I'd say the same for Yordan as well, but they need the new paint to dry on Tucker's prosthetic leg for that to happen.
And he should get it! He and Yordan are both the most important... but they also require the most load management.
(something something "how dare they not go for the Sweep!!! this is BS managing!!!" ). I firmly believe rest days should not be based on series outcomes. There is no trophy for winning this series. Maybe certain concessions made when playing division rivals who are neck and neck with you, as 2 game swings are just that, but building rest in this marathon of a season usually should be planned with enough advanced notice.
I don't have a problem with this lineup, Altuve could probably use a day off and Bregman is being eased back in. Plus I appreciate Espada having both Diaz and Caratini in the lineup to try to maximize production.
I apologize for starting this. Sometimes you (I) really need to think before posting because of emotions. This is a day game after a night game and Altuve stole 2 bases and had to run out 3 ground balls last night. And, as has been stated, he's no spring chicken. It sucks to get 1 bat back only to miss another one, but it's perfectly fair and probably the best move.
Boston might be the worst team for JV's return. Their offense is great and has a habit of competitive ABs. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy he's back -- but only expect 4 innings because his PC should be limited to ~70. Prepare for multi-inning from one, if not two, of the bullies.
With a 6 man rotation, the bullpen will be short 1 It's going to be more important than ever to have guys who can go multiple innings.
