Would the Astros be interested? https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/08/cubs-release-hector-neris.html
Yordan's slide was almost as dumb as Caratini's injury slide. It's almost as if they were looking for contact. Jansen didn't block the plate, but Yordan slid into him (left-side of the plate) and his foot got blocked before touching home plate. Our guys need to be more conscious of a better, direct, clear route. Call on the field could've stood though.
Caratini should be playing 80% of games where Yordan isn't DH, whether it be catching, 1B'ing or DH'ing --- *especially* when Bregman and Tucker are DNP.
Donatas Motiejuanas was a budding NBA star and went out with lower back pain and tightness which was suppose to keep him out 1-2 weeks aged 24. That injury ended up basically destroying is NBA career. I always think of that when I hear this small time table things... usually it's not a problem/accurate but sometimes its far worse.
Bummer. We're still winning games but you at some point you need your MLB veteran hitters [Bregman & Tucker] back in there. Can't ride these rookies and AAAA guys forever.
But then he dominated in China without getting hurt... and continues to play today. 2018-2019 season in China: 27.7 PPG, 13.9 RPG, 4.1 APG
Neris probably just needs 1) a good 2-week break 2) a removal from "closer" and 3) another touch of Josh Miller. He was abused last season, then thrusted into 9th innings this season. Astros could acquire him, let him rest a couple of weeks, then reintroduce him to a 6th/7th inning role. Abreu can be trusted for 8th innings (and closer if Hader isn't available). Who knows what Pressly's injury is or how he'll perform after returning. I definitely trust him more than Montero.
Spoiler Crazy thing about this stat is the 32-39 before his release includes the ~10-5 record while he was in Florida. The Astros pace after the release and while Everglade'ing was probably 120 wins. .
Think his bat might have come in handy? Wish Dana would've given him a shot before trading him. His hit tool has always been above avg. Oh well, water under the bridge.
He's consistently hitting the ball hard. He does need to learn to take more walks. Although it appears to me he's attacking the first good pitch he sees which doesn't lead to many walks. I like the aggressiveness.
