“Cora really likes to drink,” said someone who traveled with the Astros, according to the book. “Any road trip I was on with him, or plane flight I was on with him, he was drinking a lot. Him and Craig Bjornson, CB, were basically wasted on every single flight. So much so that Cora would turn into the equivalent of like, the scary homeless person that’s talking to themself doing like drunken tai chi in place, and you’re like: ‘Oh my God, what’s wrong with that guy?’ Like, Cora would get that level drunk on basically every single trip.”

Let's talk about Breggy walking a lot, 2nd half All-Star Stros.

I really can't believe we are just .5 games out, I thought end of season was last Sunday. Battle Hardened!!!

Yep, despite hitting incredibly well, it is easy to get overlooked when you are the 6th best hitter on the team since June 1st.

The rangers helped us out a lot. They could have easily ran away with it.

Given how incredibly long they played and the hallowed records they hold, Nolan’s and Pete Rose’s relatively low placements on that list are amazing. It is very strange to see them in the same tier of total career value as Rod Carew or Mike Mussina. It turns out a lot of singles for a hitter isn’t as valuable as it seems, and walks actually do matter a lot for a pitcher.

From a bWAR perspective the Astrodome is what really killed Nolan. His ERA+ was only equal to an above average pitcher in his time here because of it. He was a 5 WAR pitcher in California and Texas, he was a 3 WAR pitcher in his time here.

    Yeah, walks really hampered Nolan.

Another thing that sticks out is Rose and Carew's weak SB%, especially Rose. For a guy with all those batting titles, Carew's BB/K ratio was lower than you'd think. Miguel Cabrera is similar in that regard.

Astros may go from 2nd place to 3rd place to a 1st place virtual tie today.

    Rangers are off today.

Mariners play this afternoon. Kriby 3.23 ERA vs. Kopech 5.12 ERA . A Mariners win and they move into 2nd place due to owning the tie breaker and the Astros move to 3rd.

An Astros win tonight and they move back ahead of the Mariners and into a virtual tie with the Rangers for 1st place.

I didn't think the season was over -- just thought getting swept really sucked

    Battle Hardened. LOL

Thank God the Rangers are sucking

    The 6th best hitter since June 1st w/ a 135 wRC+ and .838 OPS.

That is impressive as a team.

We are a couple bad bounces from missing the playoffs or a couple clutch hits from winning the division.

Yep. Just don't look much further down the leaderboards. Meyers, Pena, and Dubon playing tough defensive positions makes their bats tolerable over that time span. After that, man, I'm surprised Maldy's OPS is high enough that Diaz isn't doubling him.

Is that from the umpires perspective?

I predicted JV would go on a roll with the Astros and finish 13-7 for the season and he's well on his way.

7 more starts, needs to go 4-1

The Astros & Rangers have been wildly inconsistent and the Mariners have a history of folding down the stretch.
We could win the division by 5 games or be in 3rd place by 5 to end the season and neither result would shock me.
