He won the all star fan vote and other players almost universally love him. Educated fans and players know he was basically uninvolved with the trash cans. Yankees and Dodgers are bitter and need to keep up the myth that the Astros were loan cheaters in order to compensate for their own shortcomings. Liking Altuve doesn’t jive with that narrative.
I just saw an umpire blow the count for the first time since I can remember. With Yordan Alvarez batting the umpire signaled a strike, which was the third one. But he apparently thought it was strike two. Not one player said anything and then Yordan grounded out. The Astros are lucky because if Yordan had gotten on base then the Red Sox would have had an excellent case to protest the results of the game.
