And how many of those batters were in a 1 run game in the 9th inning? The ONLY time a closer can really prove his worth is in 1 run games... and Porter decides to go with "matchups" that really go out the window in the 9th inning in 1 run games. Its such a different dynamic... its why Lidge was better in the 9th (before the mechanic/mental break down) than he was in the 7th or 8th. Its why Dotel was worse in the 9th than he was in the 7th or 8th. Its why Rivera is the GOAT, regardless of his total save numbers (because he was able to do it regardless of the amount of lead, regardless of pressure, regardless of situation).
Oh I agree, I was just surprised Sipp had such a great stat against lefties. Lights out Lidge was awesome and untouchable at the top of his game.
