Yes. Jacob Melton is a very physically gifted athlete. He can run and throw very well and has a lot of power. His issue isn’t tool based.
What, you're out there compounding all of your own stats? I find it quite easy to look up B-R and go from there
wOPS counts on base% twice as much as OPS does (I think), so maybe it’s a little better metric for some reason. That said, just regular OPS, especially over a lengthy time, gets the job done. Adjusting for ballparks is a big thing in stat world now, I guess.
Calculate maybe the wrong word... conceptualize maybe better. And the stat isn't on B-R so you've got to go to Fangraphs or Baseball Savant to look them up.
Still a bat short IMO- not everyone is going to hit well at the same time and another quality at bat would really extend the depth of the line up, helping make up for not having a Judge or Ohtani in the middle. Blanco and Wiesnieski’s injuries are crushing. They could hold off one being out, but two is killer. Astros two headed pitching guru was very high on Wiesnieski. My understanding right now the Astros are looking at durable inning eaters that aren’t making post season starts. Not sure that is good enough - but we will see.
Walter needs another shot IMO. Send Gordon back down, call up Walter and give him a few starts to see what we have.
I don't know how they can swing it, but Ryan O'Hearn is probably the most impactful ( to this team) bat that may be available. Insurance for Walker not coming around and giving him a break vs tough RH pitchers, maybe 25% of games. Between 1b, LF, RF, and DH not to mention insurance vs injury he would fit in quite well.
Yeah the lying is where he lost me. He was pissed off about a blown call that was 100% a ball but called a strike... justifiable reason to be pissed off. Then he decides to show up the ump by making direct eye contact and tapping his helmet as if he's in the minors calling for a review. Perfectly understandable frustration..... but when you intentionally show up an ump you can't cry when you get tossed out for it and you shouldn't lie about doing what you obviously did. That's when you lose credibility.
I think its enough if at least 2 of Arrighetti, McCullers, Javier, or Garcia are healthy and can give 4+ good innings in the playoffs. Or even piggy back them. The key is no more injuries from Framber, Lance, or Hunter and no more setbacks from Arrighetti, Javier, or Garcia. I would be happier with a dependable veteran #4 or 5 but if all that happens I think Gusto, Gordon, Walter, Blubaugh, Ullola can fill in the rest. Post season: #1 Brown #2 Framber #3 McCullers and Javier #4 Arrighetti and Garcia Hader, Abreu, and King + the 3-4 best of the rest according to Miller/Murphy.
I didn't see as much of the game as I'd have liked but know we had several strikes not called. Look forward to the umpire grade post.
