Sipp takes the position of the DH, and Zied takes the position of Grossman. Just another reason why the DH is stupid and shouldn't exist.
So Zeid's has an .816 career ops against righties Farnsworth has a .799 OPS agianst righties Sipp has a .631 OPS against righties. So it's pretty clear why Porter has to move heaven and earth to make sure Sipp doesn't face right handed hitters.
Apparently this move broke everything. On MLB At-Bat, it's stuck on bottom of the 8th inning. Same thing for ESPN game cast. I can't even follow the game.
It will be interesting to hear if Porter did not know this rule or if in his best Pee Wee Herman voice he says "I meant to do that". Too bad they lost a guy who could tie the game with a swing of the bat. Perhaps Porter will fine and bench himself.
With a beast like Price i expected to lose. But we could have won this one if not for Porters unhealthy love affair with Jerome Williams.
Partly that, but don't forget the run Tampa got on a replay overturn with zero conclusive evidence. Just a ****ty way to lose.
The only reason I know that rule is because a few years back it was said that Ichiro Suzuki wouldn't mind trying to pitch late in his career and the big question was, if he pitched in the AL could they DH for a different position? Turns out you couldn't. That's the only reason I know that rule.
Right, but the manager should. Ashby was using backwards thinking and unable to justify. When you look at it as the DH can only DH for the pitcher, it is easy to comprehend.
I saw the ball on the inside of Guzman's glove almost simultaneous with the front foot of the runner hitting the bag. If it was called safe on the field, I wouldn't have a problem with it; it was that close. Just don't see anything that makes it 100% conclusive either way.
For what its worth, Mike Fast posted the applicable Rule re: the switch on another fansite. "Rule 6.10(b) (8) Once the game pitcher is switched from the mound to a position on defense, such move shall terminate the Designated Hitter role for that club for the remainder of the game."
