My problem with Kubes was he had too much on his plate being HC/OC, thats on Bob. He should have been given help. Just like O'B doing the same thing, maybe he can handle it but Ive never been a fan of the combo but here we go again. If you have an OC who concentrates on that specific part of the game who can make proper adjustments and play calls gives you an advantage. You have too much going on as a HC to fully exploit the opponents weaknesses, IMO.
Maybe, maybe no. Coaches can do better. He did get to the second round twice Then Rick Smith's moves killed the team.
I don't know about next year, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get another shot. A lot of good coaches fail in their first stint. And while mediocre at times, the team was never really that bad until the last year.
He didnt know what to do after Schaub went downhill. So he will need to go to a team with a superstar QB.
I don't think he needs a superstar. Schaub was very good for a stretch but not elite and you can make the same arguement about Flacco. Good, not elite/superstar. He can have a good offense with simply a solid QB.
Yeah right Kubes offenses were so gooood, Texans never beat any elite teams in Schaubs/Kubes best years, in fact usually it was down right embarrassing.
If you lost close, high scoring games then you could blame the defense. Even then keeping the defense on the field, turnovers and pick sixes tend to make you look worse than you actually are.
Acting like pick sixes is somehow inherent in Kubiak's offense is ridiculous. Pick sixes were strictly a broken foot Schaub phenomenon.
And most people outside of Houston don't look at him under the same microscope as we do in Houston. All they see is a coach who took the Texans to the 2nd round of the playoffs 2 years in a row. But for his sake, I do hope he just stays as an OC. For his own health.
His name is being mentioned in Chicago. The feeling there is that if anyone can straighten out Cutler, it will be Kubiak. If so, I wish him luck - Cutler blows chunks...
I'd kind of like to see what he'd do with an actual good QB for a change. Sticking him with Schaub, Flacco, then Cutler is almost unfair.
