Well, it was a rhetorical question. But that's going to be a long 1-to-3 weeks. I have been in the very, very unpopular "trade yao" camp since he broke his leg. I'm done with getting my hopes up only to see them cracked with his latest injury. His muscles and ligaments don't get enough recovery time to get strong. Someone who's not at that level of exertion all freaking year long doesn't break his foot like he did a couple years ago or his leg like last year. Dude is made of glass. Let some other franchise get their hopes up high--then dashed to the hardwood--year after year. I'm tensely awaiting for when, not if (while of course hoping it never comes) the next freak season-ending Yao injury will come. What good is it to have a "he'd be a hall-of-famer if he could stay on the court" guy on your team? For five years, the Rockets have been all IF. "If" in one hand, crap in the other; see which one fills up first. Every NFL QB takes cheap shots. One of them has missed 33% of his team's games the last two years. In his two starts? This is a good point. How long do we wait it out? Personally, I'd *like* to see a fourth-rounder go for a QB who might make a really good backup QB or might become a "late bloomer". Then he's got a year to hold the clipboard and observe the NFL game while we watch what injuries Schaub will sustain next year (and hope he plays 16 and becomes Tom Brady). Yes. Yes, it is.
it's not rampant, msn - guys aren't getting fined $50,000 on a weekly basis. florence was nicked for $15,000 last year. show me the receipt trail of this happening to "every NFL QB." you're right - they never practiced, played preseason games or emptied the bench in atlanta during schaub's time there..... i hope they don't waste a 4th rounder on a QB.
I can't. So, I'll have to concede. But I'm honestly stunned if our starter is the only one to suffer cheap shots the last two years. And I wouldn't be surprised in the least if the majority of them went unfined. Not caught by the ref, not flagged, not reviewed by the league office because the (non-brittle) QB got up and played ball. No harm, no foul, as it were. But, I can't prove it, so I concede. Practice just isn't the same as game action against guys who have no vested interest in your continual health. Preseason games and garbage time just aren't as intense, either. Schaub got precious little playing time with Dogfighter there running the show. I hope they pretend everything's fine. I'm good for another year of 2/3 Schaub and 1/3 Rosenfoulup, with no plan on moving forward. Dude, that's so exciting I could throw up.
msn, the league's fining guys for perfectly legal blocks, for heaven's sake. if "every NFL QB" - the position they coddle more than any other - was getting cheap shot consistently, the NFL would be passing out fines left and right. toughing it out and playing has nothing to do with it. 2 of the 3 plays that have knocked schaub out have resulted in $65,000 worth of fines - that's simply not commonplace in the NFL. granted. but in 3-4 years, however long he was there - wouldn't there be SOME indication he was fragile? they have bigger needs, msn. if a 1st or 2nd round talent were to fall in their lap in round 4, OK - cool. but they have six starters to upgrade on defense and i'm guessing they wouldn't mind upgrading the OL's interior. and they need a back to replace green. all bigger priorities than drafting a QB just in case...
Conceded. With no playing time? That sounds so reasonable, but it sounds so much like the defense for David Carr. "We have bigger needs; there are other parts of the team that suck much worse." If he's not even on the field, that sucks. Very, very badly.
again, msn - my point is that fragility is not something that ONLY manifests itself in regular season games. if there were a CB or DE or LB or S and QB available - both of equal value on your board (and assuming you haven't filled the need already) - would you draft the QB ahead of any of those other positions?
Look, you've forgotten more about this than I know. But it would seem that real games versus opponents with no vested interest in your continuing health would be more taxing on the body and pose many more opportunities for injury. I'm not sure. But I do have a couple questions about this hypothetical: What round is it? If it's a later round, how in the hell are those other needs as yet unaddressed? How have Schaub and Rosenfumble performed the last half of 2008?
unlikely... sure - but again, i'm merely supposing if he was fragile - his college career, pro career: at some point, someone would have had to have seen SOMETHING....... i think he's just snakebit. blergh. point is: QB is a low priority if there are still other, more pressing positions you need to address.
Ric, I'm not so sure about either QB. They both don't look all that impressive to me and at this point in time, I can't help but see the Texans having to draft another QB either next year or the year after that in which case we all get to hop on the merry-go-round once again. It's unfortunate really. When I looked at the 2006 draft, this was my worse case scenario. And before folks get all worked up and misinterpret this as a slam against MW, it's not in the least. It's just that in 2006, I personally felt that replacing the QB should have been their first priority. Well anyway, the die has been cast and we all will just have to wait and see how this season plays finally itself out.
I agree It is not a Slight against MW nor and Endorsement of VY It was that the coaching staff and ownership came out and said CARR IS FINE . . HE IS GOOD ENOUGH . . . WE CAN MAKE HIM A WINNER! and most of the fans knew that was a lie Then they gave up on him the next year . . . and went got Schuab they have not seriously . .and realistically looked at the QB Position they only looked at the investment at the QB position and said that was good enough . . .
