not for nothing but baltimore is not a mediocre team; they're a very good team - 2nd best defense in all of football and 2 of their 3 losses were to PITT and TENN by a combined 6 points; one in OT. just sayin'....
C'mon lets not overreact on the QB problem. Ravens defense is good. If we don't draft for defense in the first few rounds, we're hopeless.
nah, it was the puljos homer that did sage in.... rosenfels never had anything to lose - this is what happens the more he plays: his flaws - that ones that have kept him a career back-up - get exposed. he's simply not very good - a good, valuable back-up. but he's not a starter.
It's difficult for me to believe this team is only one good draft and a new head coach from being relevant. They still look years away from playing meaningful games in December.
Thank you for the correction; I haven't (as you can see) followed them this year. Man, I had this same thought, almost word-for-word, when I read the post you quoted. He's just not very good. I am waffling like a Democrat on this. When the Texans play a "baby steps" game, and either only lose by a touchdown or maybe be another pathetic team, I feel encouraged. Then, they lay an egg like today, or give up a 17-point fourth quarter lead in like fifteen seconds. "Relevant" is a good word, and the Texans aren't.
Texans are baby stepping it, great. Its all about watching the kids grow, helping them on their way... Just frustrating when you see other teams go from babies to grown adults after one offseason.
no teams are doing that and sustaining it and/or they're rebounding from a fluke bad year - look at the most recent example: the cleveland browns, last year's cinderella has the same record as the texans. the only team recently that was really bad and rebounded, seemingly for good, is tennessee. and it took them 3 bad-to-mediocre years before they won 10 games. this is kubiak's 3rd year. atlanta looks great this year; we'll see if they're more than a one-year wonder.
Lets draft a QB next year. Im tired of every year being a defense building year. We have one of the most talented receiving corps in the league, and a freaking musical chairs game going on at QB.
How many more weeks of this must we endure? It's painful, painful to watch. Sage reminded me so much of Carr today it was scary. Stand still for two seconds, eyes as big as baseballs, and fire into double coverage. Man... It makes me all the more frustrated with the Schaub trade. I was excited when they did it--I drank the kool-aid. I believed all the nationally-touted hype and rhetoric. But cheap shots or not, we have a fragile QB on our hands. A 24 million dollar, two second-round draft pick IR member. I can't see this team building solid momentum when they have to keep resorting to the backup. It's frustrating. It's "oh-look-yao-broke-his-leg-i-was-wondering-when-not-if" frustrating. And, honestly, if they can't keep a consistent (not hall-of-fame, just consisten) quarterback consistently in there, I can't agree that the offense is fine. It didn't look fine today. How many games will Schaub play next year? For however many games he does not play, the offense is *not* "fine".
1 to 3.
And, honestly, if they can't keep a consistent (not hall-of-fame, just consisten) quarterback consistently in there, I can't agree that the offense is fine.
msn, should the rockets be looking for a new center? come on - yao's "fragile," right? mcgrady, too - let's get a new 3 while we're at it....... i'm going to assume the texans like what they see from schaub and think he can be the QB they want/need. so when do you give up on that? again, he's not missing games because of nicks and nags or recurring injuries - he's taking legitimate (cheap) shots. schaub didn't have this problem in college and i'm going to guess, if kubiak called on alex gibbs for a recommendation before the trade, that if there was any indication the kid was fragile in ATL, gibbs would have seen it. i think he's just had some bad luck. same as adrian petersen his last two years in college - how do you think the teams that passed on him because he was "injury prone" feel now? it's certainly a concern.
The flipside of this is that we don't really know how good they are either. 5 of Baltimore's 6 wins are against teams with 3 wins or less. Their one win against a +0.500 team is 5-4 Miami.
I agree that it's a little early to give up on Schaub, but I also think that the Texans are taking how much they gave up for him into consideration on whether he is their guy or not. Even if Kubiak did call Gibbs for a recommendation on Schaub, he only started 2 games so while there was no indication he was fragile, he hadn't really showed anything at all. He's definitely taken some cheap shots and has had some bad luck as well, but the guy has missed a 1/3 of his games as a Texan and that's a huge concern IMO.
Schaub's had some bad breaks, and you cant help but feel for the guy, but all these injuries aren't making him look that enticing as a long term investment. In the meanwhile, our running game has seen its first quality back in a few years, without big bucks or a high draft pick. We have a deep list of receivers that have all made impressive catches, can get open, and hustle. And of course AJ whose established himself as the best in the league regardless of who throws the ball. With a spotty Matt Schaub we got to 4th best offense, who has 10 TDs to 8 Int (9-9 in 07). He's only 27 I think but how much upside can we expect him to have? Were close (talent wise) to being the kind of offense where other teams have to fight to keep up with. Conversely, I think we can all agree itll take a long time to build and develop a defense that can stop a competent offense. Another tackle or end, healthy LB corps, and at a minimum a safety and corner. Hopefully Smith will get replaced and he can stop corrupting this young defense, but that means a new DC and a new system, thats like 3 years, and who knows how Schaub will be by then. I dont know, its just so aggravating to have your hopes so high, and watch 16 games dreaming of how itll be the next 16.
