Unless there is a bad baserunner who makes the 1st or 3rd out out at third. Or you hit what should be a home run and this happens: Granted, a run did score, but it made me think of this.
Walks are good. It's unlikely that Alvarez will be able maintain his BA and elevated BABIP for much longer. However, as others have said, it's reasonable to expect his BB% to rise over the course of the season as his control over the strike zone has not diminished.
Alvarez's command of the strike zone is insane for the slugger he is. He doesn't care about hitting a homer every AB, he just cares about getting on base... the homers just happen.
If you’re picking apart Yordan’s batting tools, then you probably have too much time on your hands. He is a top 10 hitter in the entire MLB and arguably higher. His stats will ebb and flow like any player, but the constants you want out of any hitter are there with Yordan: beautiful swing, soul-crushing power, above average contact skills, good eye, and intimidating as hell in the box. Legit nightmare stuff—better start to his career than The Machine himself. You can tell that he has the respect of this league’s best, which is the most important thing to note. I’d bet most opposing teams aren’t so worried/concerned about Yordan’s current K/BB stats. Hopefully he can stay healthy, but my (unsolicited) advice is to sit back and enjoy the show, because these hitters don’t come around too often.
I've always thought it weird to rest stars on weekend games. Wouldn't it be better to have your most popular players on the field when fans can turn out for a game? I'd be mad if I could only bring my kids to a few games a year only to find out on game day that my son's favorite player is sitting for one of them.
I was once stranded on an island at 1000 islands Ontario, and it wasn't so bad. The Astros are digging their way out.
Fully agree Altuve has been red hot also And why the hell does he think he has to bet Garcia first, we can only overcome Dusty so many times
Astros are not going to let viewership or weekend concerns affect their players rest schedule, nor should they. I’m completely fine with resting Altuve whenever they think is necessary. We’ve played like 12 straight, too. Let him rest if he needs it.
I know Click apparently told Correa that they “don’t believe in long term contracts”.... but Yordan is 23 years old. This dude needs to be locked in ASAP. 8 years 200 million will seem like a bargain in a few years but I think that’s a number that would get it done right now considering his age and being a Cuban ball player.
There are many reasons to sit a player that fans aren't aware of. Often a weekend game involves an afternoon start which affects some players more than others. Sometimes there's a minor discomfort that a player can play through if required, but is better rested on any given day. But the bottom line is that fan happiness at the games has become secondary to keeping the networks happy.
You don't pay him $40M/year for his CC years. Bregman only extended for one FA season and the rest just cover CC years including Arbitration years. The signing bonus is the incentive for the player and the locked in contract hopefully reduces clubhouse tension for a few years.
