My son and I watched a repeat of the Bills/Oilers game last night. He started talking about all the games the Texans blew last year on crazy situations. It's like a never-ending cycle.
It's amazing how numbers bring up specific memories for people. 41-38 19-10 18-1 61* 70** 73********************************************************
Thats the day I gave up on that team, and basically on Houston football period. The most humiliating professional sports game by any Houston team in its entire history, imo.
I'm not sure I wouldn't want Wade through the deadline. He has done very well in the trade market. Past the trade deadline, I say go ahead and clean house.
Wade has been given a bad rap for his deals but they've been pretty good. Lidge/Bourn has turned out well, Oswalt appears to be close to done so getting what we got was good and it looks like the Berkman deal is going to turn out well. His issues haven't been trades, it's been signings.
Tejada for Luke Scott and trash Valverde for Qualls and trash Bourn for Lidge Hawkins for trash Wolf for trash Sanchez for Kevin Cash Oswalt for Wallace/Happ/Villar (The Wallace deal was separate, but that is how it worked out) Berkman for Melancon/Paredes Lindstrom for trash (both directions) The only one you could argue he has lost out on was dealing away Lindstrom. Tejada/Valverde/Bourn were all-stars for us. Hawkins and Wolf were amazing. Sanchez has been a serviceable player. Wallace is looking very good, Villar is a top 100 prospect and Melancon is our closer. Any other trades I'm not thinking of?
Didn't even realize Esposito was up. Good for Carpenter, but surprised it wasn't FRod coming back up. BTW, brings up a trade I forgot: David Carpenter for Pedro Feliz.
Its good to new faces on the Astros roster. If they are ever going to climb out of the cellar, this is what they must do. If we could only move Lee
Thing is...this is the Brett Myers we expected last season. Myers is an innings eater, he'll give up 4 runs on a number of hits and usually a bomb or two per game but battle all the way through...that's his career.
There is very depressing and hopeless feeling watching this team. We suck, we are going to continue to suck. Everybody trashes us, the people talk smack and we are completely incapable of defending ourselves because this franchise is garbage now. Over a decade of being one of the best organizations in baseball... to this. We're the pirates of this decade, meaningless also-rans. Even during the francis mobley iso era, i never felt this bad. Luckily the astros are third on my houston pecking order, but still.
