I think CometsWin is going down a bad line of reasoning with this whole Jets/Schaub performance thing... BUT, in his defense, the Saints won yesterday 24-10, not 17-10. They scored an offensive touchdown, it was just a rushing one.
Yeah, I'm not sure what point CometsWin is trying to make here. Schaub didn't play well against the Jets. Uh....ok....you win(?) My only concern about Matt has been his ability to stay healthy. Considering he hasn't missed a game yet this season, not much to complain about so far this year. (knock on wood) And I agree with JayZ750. What some people call holding onto the ball too long, I call standing strong in the pocket. We used to have a QB who wasn't very good at that.
It definitely cost me mine...I started Schaub, AJ, and Daniels. As soon as Jacoby returned the punt, I knew it was game over for my fantasy team.
And we used to have a team/o-line that couldn't form a pocket to save their lives... even if they were facing a team as bad as the Raiders.
Then why all of the sensitivity when it comes to Schaub? The second someone makes a disparaging remark about him, the statistics recital begins. Seriously, you are on point here: he has nothing to do with the things that are holding back the Texans. He a good QB who executes the offense well and doesn't make a lot of mistakes. Does he have physical limitations? Sure, but the last time I looked teams in the NFL aren't requiring their QBs to rush for 1000 years or to bench press 500 lbs. Schaub's level of play should speak for itself. Again, the numbers are nice and may make one feel warm and fuzzy on a cold winter's night but in the end, the only stat that really matters is the won-loss record. So if this team goes 8-8 and Schaub is sitting at home with the rest of us come playoff time, I fail to see how it can be considered a success.
Because it's sophomoric to automatically blame the QB whenever a football team loses. It's what the dumb fan who doesn't watch the game does. It would be like blaming Lance Berkman for the Astros' problems, it just doesn't make any sense. It's just a really bad argument, that's why people jump all over it. No one said 8-8 is a success. At the same time, it's not Schaub's fault if he plays great and the defense gives up 30 a game and we end up 8-8.
this. it's not that hard to understand. This doesn't mean Schaub is an all-star and going to take the texans to the promise land. What it does mean is that he has played well enough to be given a pass, for now, seeing as the team has been so horrible in other areas
its not standing in the pocket that's the problem, its being totally unaware of who is bearing down on him. Carr as well as Schaub are actually pretty tough when it comes to standing in the pocket, I don't think there are too many people who've seen both play argue otherwise. But I agree with JayZ750 that he does look much improved on his pocket awareness, something carr never improved on (in his defense he maybe was too rattled by the sacks early in his career). Schaub may be getting better with more and more playing time.
We appear to be in agreement here about Schaub. My response was directed at the line of argument that substituted stats for success which supposes that things are really OK if a team can put prodigious numbers even as it goes nowhere in the standings. I think folks need to grow thicker skins with regards to criticism of the Texans with the understanding that until they (Texans) go out and prove otherwise on the field, they will be labeled and dismissed as a mediocre team. After all, things can always be worse - just look at Oakland.
