It's amazing. Schaub excels in just about every facet of the QB position (arguably the best QB play since the middle of last year) and some fans still aren't happy. Schaub puts points on the board. It's not his fault the defense allows even more.
Matt has top 5 QB numbers. If you give Matt a Pocket it has been shown that he will tear teams apart. Yeah he'll throw a INT trying to get Andre the ball on a jump ball play...but it's what any sane QB would do if they had 'Dre. Yeah our defense played the Raiders...but they did what they were supposed to do. Hats off to them for this one week. They have a lot of work to do to prepare against the Cards.
Schaub is awesome. The people who are saying he's average are worse just aren't watching the games or don't know what they are talking about. He puts up the stats, the points, and is a leader. He's pretty much carrying a team with no run game or defense. Overall, solid all-around effort. Hard to say how much this was due to the Raiders, though. They are just embarrassing. I thought it was hard to be a Texans fan, wow.
I probably have never seen a team play worse than the Raiders did today. Next week is an interesting scenario for Houston, Arizona is beatable, but this seems like the kind of game the Texans usually lose.
You're the one that doesn't sound like you're watching the games. The Jets were the best defense we've seen and Schaub was completely ineffective. The Titans, Jags, and Raiders all have mediocre defenses at best. Hell the Titans and Raiders haven't even won a game yet.
To which they claimed Schaub was hurt. I don't have a problem with Schaub's play when he's healthy. The question is the same as it's been since he got here, can he stay healthy.
Drew Brees & Tom Brady didn't throw any touchdown passes against the Jets either. Schaub has been great since week 1. Stop hating.
Not doing well against the Jets is looking like the norm amongst the best QBs in the game. Again, Schaub did better against the Jets than Brady...so unless Brady sucks, then your argument holds no water. And as mentioned, Brees threw 0 TDs today.
Once Al Davis stops calling plays into Jamarcus Russell's helmet, is when we can count the Raiders as a geniune NFL team again. For now, they still look they have alot of bad players carrying out the bad play calls by bad coaches by a bad owner who hired them. Shaub's stats from his past few games are great. Though with stats we need to remember when David CARR was leading the league in completion %, set an NFL record for most consecutive completions, and had a respectable QB rating. To confuse QB analysis even more, Mark Sanchez is everyone's favorite golden boy QB, leading a 25th ranked passing attack....Being helped out by a top 10 running attack and number 2 defense in the league. Sure he has all the makings and all the tools. But give Mark Sanchez a DEAD LAST run defense, 30th ranked overall defense and 30th ranked run offense, and then see his approval rating out of that. I think Shaub's doing an above average job. Besides the health setbacks, basically what he's been brought in to do what he's supposed to do.
Wanted to throw more praise on the job that Antonio Smith did today. Nice to see him show up, even if it didn't really get reflected in the stat lines. And I'm glad Mario finally got that sack and forced fumble. He was RIGHT THERE in Russell's face all day long, putting pressure. I was afraid he would never quite get there. And I find if funny that people look at today's game as an example of Schaub not being a good quarterback. I saw real growth today as a QB for Matt. I think people are forgeting the real reason why it is difficult for Schaub to have a good game against this team. That reason is Nnamdi Asomugha. This guy is so good he basically shuts down half the field every time we face them. If he can do that by himself, then the safeties and the other CB are more than enough to handle the other WR and TEs. So I honestly don't think that Schaub had that many open receivers to throw to today when they bothered to pass at all. The only INT he had was just because he underthrew the pass, not because it was a bad decision. He managed the game today, and since it was the Raiders, that was all he needed to do. And I'm glad he wasn't trying to do more. There were a few plays where he seemed to stand in the pocket longer than I would have liked and wished he had thrown the ball away rather than take the sack, but I'd much rather a that sack than him try to force a pass to someone that is covered. And to anyone that seriously thinks that Matt is too easily rattled, take a look at the 2nd game against the Titans last year. The game we won. That game proved to me finally that Matt is not weak of mind when it comes to teams that hammer him. He was constantly under pressure in that game and knocked to the ground repeatedly, and still made the plays he needed to when he needed to. Schaub is no longer on my list of concerns for this team being a winning franchise. He has proven himself to me. And for whoever asked about that new starting safety Pollard, I would say he did fine today. He had a couple plays where he was in position to lay some wood and never really got a chance due to bad passes from Russell. I don't remember him ever being out of position drastically, which is a plus.
No, you missed my point here completely. To me, it's not a question of whether or not Schaub is a good-great-elite QB but rather goals and objectives for the Texans. Simply put what is the main goal here: to have an offense and QB generate prodigious numbers or to hoist that Lombardi trophy? The latter is the only thing that matters to me. The road to Canton is riddled with teams that put up great looking offensive numbers but didn't win championships. There appears to be somewhat of an inferiority complex around here regarding Schaub because everytime some makes a comment about not liking him, folks rush to his defense with all kinds of numbers and statistics when the reality is Schaub really doesn't need much defending. If you want to see what a bad QB looks like, then all you or anyone else has to do is to look at video of Jamarcus Russell from yesterday's game. Schaub is NOWHERE near that pathetic. Or maybe folks should go back and review video of Pretty David after they let him get sacked 250 times. Or, if you want to see what a QB who can put up all kinds of numbers and not win a playoff game, take a look at Tony Romo who ironically garners the same type of defense from Cowboys' fans. My focus is on the ultimate goal and not numbers. While the numbers may be important indicators of how well you are doing at a particular point in time, they should not become a substitute for wins and losses. Statistically, Schaub may well be the best thing sliced bread but if the end result is another 8-8 (or worse season), then what's the point of having all those great stats?
As I said in my reply to Nick, Schaub really doesn't need to be defended. He may not be the second coming of Joe Montana but he's no Jamarcus Russell either. If DD doesn't like Schaub because he's slow and unathletic, then that's his perrogative and I can respect his position.
So do you apply this same logic to all of our players? Andre Johnson, Mario Williams, Demeco Ryans, they are also players and have just as much impact on the field as the QB.
How did the Raiders win a game this year? They look like the 2004 Texans, only Russell doesn't look quite as comfortable in the pocket as Carr...................... Nice win, but like everyone says, it's the Raiders. I can't believe people are still bagging on Schaub. He didn't play well in Week 1, but his good play in Weeks 2, 3, and 4 don't count because he didn't play well in Week 1? That makes sense. I mean, we all expect this kind of nonsense from DD (who doesn't really care about the Texans, but still has a seemingly endless amount of stupid and uninformed opinions about them), but I don't see how anyone else can say the guy isn't having an above average season so far. LOT'S of teams would trade their starting QB for Matt Schaub this year. I can think of 3 right off the bat. Oakland, Tennessee.............and Dallas........
if your goal is winning, then Matt has certainly done his part of reaching that goal. You may not "like" him, but he isn't costing the texans games
Have you been watching other NFL games or just Texans highlights? Yes, the Jets defense is really good, and they were able to contain both Brady and Brees. Not sure how this helps your argument.
No one has an inferiority complex about Schaub. On the contrary, it's casual, uninformed fans who just reflexively "blame the QB" after all the years of David Carr. This is a team game. If Schaub carries a crappy team to an 8 win season, that is a team fail, but a success for Schaub. It isn't Schaub's fault that the Texan's defense and run game sucks. No one is saying stats sub for wins. I don't see anything about Schaub's play that indicates he is just "stat padding. "
I learned the Raiders really sucked, but I'm not sure I learned a thing about the Texans watching that game.
I was just happy they didn't play down to the Raiders level like they typically do with bad teams. It's nice to see them go out and crush someone that deserved to be crushed.
