To be fair in this debate, I believe Schaub was recently ranked as the top rated QB in the league under "normal" circumstances and at the bottom (~30) when under pressure. Can't recall the source.

And Schaub has had a bad tendency to underthrow his receivers at times (not under pressure). Both not leading them well when open (happened twice today on what could have been big play TDs) and throwing at their ankles.

I'd also say that our elite receiving corps and playbook make Schaub look very good most weeks. More often he's tagging a wide open man, rather than placing the ball through the eye of the needle.

That said, Schaub this year has shown a lot of progress in his decision making. It seems to be a little quicer, and he's making smarter decisions when plays break down.

Referring to DD's mention about making plays on the run, it's better in the NFL to NOT make that your goal. That thinking is what leads to Jake Plummer syndrome, something that afflicted Sage in the worst way last year. Understand your limits, and know that if a play is busted you need to throw the ball away. Schaub has done a very good job there - ball protection.

Schaub this year has been a top 10 QB, for sure.

Yep he did. Basically forced that safety, and was able to stop both the run and get pressure on the QB.

Combine that with Amobi getting a sack on a perfectly executed swim-move, and Mario bringing the heat nearly every pass (including the sack-fumble), and this may have been the best effort yet from the d-line.

But again... it was the Raiders.

    No.

I am done with this team until he is no longer owner.

I am not going to continue to support a senile old fart's delusions of returning to glory.

He once was a great football mind, now he's just a great football.

He wasnt that horrible today. The Raiders wide recievers are absolutely horrible. I lost count on the number of dropped catches but it was a ridiculous number. Also their offensive line is absolutely pitiful. It looked like one of those old school Texans O-lines.

That said Jamarcus Russell is pretty bad, certainly not #1 pick worthy anyway.

A lot of them were dropped, but NONE of them were good throws. He underthrew a lot of recievers and didn't ever appear to know what he was doing. 11-30 is absolutely pathetic

The texans' defense played well because the guys up front played great. Okoye and Antonio Smith finally showed up to play. They were causing havoc on the pass and were stuffing the run.

On offense, they still have problems running the ball.

Well I started the day unimpressed with the Raiders and true to form, they managed to leave me with an even lower impression of them as a team than I already had.

Here my take: the stats are a nice touch but I prefer wins and playoff appearances to empty numbers. No matter how impressive Schaub's numbers look, they are still meaningless to me if he's at home watching the playoffs...again.

If you're just gonna go by that line of thinking, why even include just "making the playoffs".

How many yards and TD's did Warren Moon throw for, only to never really win a meaningful playoff game? He even eventually got voted into the HOF for his career... and yet when he was here (and then when he was run out of here), all people did was criticize him for never leading Houston to the Super Bowl.

The same fates could be there for Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers. Meanwhile, Rothlesberger is winning without much stats, and Brady is happy to be even more immobile than Schaub, but still win.

The bottom line... this is still a team game, no matter how much your team does or does not depend on its QB. Some QB's get all the numbers in the world, but don't have the surrounding parts to get their team to the next level.

Agree with everything EXCEPT about the playoffs because our D is so bad most of the time that it could and probably will cost us a game or two which is the difference between watching and playing in the show.

If Matt continues to improve and puts the team in a position to atleast get to the playoffs while our D is coming togethar then I am cool with Matt.
