If I gripe about things, I've got to praise when it's due - helps when you're playing a team as hapless as the Raiders, but it's not an automatic cure-all (see: Skins, Red). Single game and we saw a safety, punt returned for TD, strip sack fumble recovery, Special Teams fumble recovery, routine pressure on the QB, a run game chipping in, no defensive big play lapses, guys laying hard licks, etc. "We can build on this!" OKOYE getting a sack! All this despite a quiet day from Johnson. Good stuff. We missed a chance to go 3-1, but the Titans are now 0-4 and we have a good shot at going 3 for our next 4. If we really get hot, all 4 are possible. Keep it up, crew. Evan
How much more impressive can you be? Best passer rating in the NFL since week 7 of last year. All his stats today were from the first half. Did the Texans even throw the ball in the second half?
Great all around game by the Texans today. Loved the safety which was immediately followed by the Jones TD return. Fun game for the most part. Defense finally played good all game with out letting up on a BIG play. Lots of nice hard hits, Robinson was horizontal like 5 times in this game trying to hit people as hard as he could. Cushing had some nice hits too, and that Safety was AWESOME! I like how the tv commentator said it.....The "50's" decided to show up. Great game by those guys.
hmmmm....well, he is leading the NFL in QB rating since week 7 of last season IIRC. He just had back to back 300+yard games. Infact, I'll quote one of my older posts....
when we drafted Cushing, I was a bit skeptical. I wasn't sold on him. And then we didn't see him during the preseson, but the dude has really grown on me, and this guy screams football player. Love the way he targets his man.
D(ebbie) D(owner)...must not have been impressed with Schaubs "handing the ball off" technique, there's no way he's not impressed with Matt's season stats...1047 passing yds, 80-129 for a 62% completetion rating, 8 TD's 3 INT's........
Lies, darned lies and statistics. No, I am not impressed with his lack of athleticism and the ability to rattle him fairly easily. He has had a decent run.....and, who were his opponents? Any time he is flushed it is like watching paint dry... I believe that to win it all you need to be able to make some plays with your feet...unless you are uncanily accurate like Payton is...and Matt is not him. DD
Hah, not someone that is all legs......I like Schaub when there is no pressure, but he just doesn't offer any more than that...he is a stationary target that is easily rattled, looks at his receivers too long and has a tendency to toss teh ball behind his receivers on crossing routes. I think he is an average QB.....and I would like to see more from that position. DD
So unless Schaub becomes fleet of foot, you will never be impressed with him correct? Is that right? Would you rather have VY as QB of the Texans?
No, Vince has not proven he is an NFL QB yet.....I don't know whom should be the QB, I am just saying I don't like Schaub. No biggie...you guys feel free to disagree....maybe he will lead the team to the playoffs..... DD
DD, I actually like a lot of your takes on this board, but if there's one thing you've proven time and time and time again, it's that your judge of talent, be it on the basketball court or elsewhere, isn't exactly scout-worthy. You were just shown stats that put Matt ahead of Peyton (and others), despite being blitzed significantly more often. Yes, he needs to keep it up, the team needs to make the playoffs, and Matt needs to keep playing well throughout the season, stay healthy, and hopefully into the playoffs. But if/once that happens, anyway will be able to say in hindsight - "he really became much better at passing under pressure and being an accurate thrower, despite a relative lack of supreme athleticism" I'm personally not completely sold on Matt as an elite quarterback or a young quarterback with elite potential. But he wins me over more and more every week. Even his interceptions have generally gone from "what were you thinking" to "he took a shot and the other team came up with it" - which happens.
Like we have all said, he has led the NFL in passer rating since week 7 of last year. His opponents in that time include: Bengals, Vikings, Ravens, Colts, Browns, Jags, Packers, Titans, Raiders, Bears, Jets, Titans, Jags, Raiders. What is an example of him being rattled easy? And when has his lack of ability to run hurt him much? If anything, he has more of an ability to run than most people give him credit for. I would put him right in the middle of the pack in terms of running ability. Schaub is a pretty big guy, maybe he just looks slower to you. Kinds like Joe Flacco. He is big but actually has quite a bit of running ability.
