ESPN's Herm Edwards on Andre Johnson-less #Texans: "How about Owens, the tight end? Daniel Owens. He's gonna be a big factor vs. #Raiders."
Good post, interesting. For some reason I remember over dependence on the run game. Maybe later in the game.
Every game in the NFL is a "must win". This isn't the NBA where you can take some games off and still make the playoffs. Every game counts.
Nope, because the 16 game schedule shows no mercy, and all it takes is one three game tailspin to eliminate any playoff hopes.
We SHOULD win a high scoring game going away. The problem is our staff often makes games close that shouldn't be ( like last week) and downright loses many tight ones. The Raiders fall into a dangerous category for this Texans team. Are we going to be "up" for this game ? And when the chips are down (momentum swings) what kind of decisions are coming from the sideline. The ingame adjustments, esp. with the secondary are huge. Our DLine needs to kick a$$. I think it goes down to the wire - tossup

I wanted to put the game on mute past two weeks but I don't miss Gus and his clown antics. That guy has gotten the **** shifts now with fox thank god. Something to note every week we've won Berman has predicted us to lose and not cover the spread. FYI
Ah, can't really argue with that... I just seem to remember being pissed at Kubes for running too much. Guess not.
For the umpteenth time the Texans will try and get three games above .500 for the first time in franchise history. Game Release Flip Card Injury Report Preliminary Roof Report: Closed Uniform: Blue Jersey / White Pants. The Texans are 2-0 this season with that combination. --- Future CBS announcer assignments: Wk 6: Texans @ Ravens -- Greg Gumbel, Dan Dierdorf Wk 7: Texans @ Titans -- Marv Albert, Rich Gannon
Starting a game with 3 pass plays doesn't necessarily concede field position any worse than running the ball 3 times. That all comes down to execution. If the 3 pass plays are successful, you move the chains and gain field position (and eventually a score). If you run the ball three times and only gain 7 yards, you've still conceded field position. The only difference is the time run off the clock (since usually failing to get a 1st down on pass attempts means incompletions). But if you are talking about the first series of a game, clock really isn't that big of a deal at that point. The Texans just need to make play calls based on what they see from the defense and what they think will succeed. The idea that calling three straight passing plays to start a game is wrong regardless of opponent or situation is silly. By the way, I heard on 790 this morning that the Texans have called running plays on 52% of their offensive plays this season. That's the highest in the whole league. And that's WITHOUT Arian Foster for most of the time. That's skewed some, I know, because we were running the clock at the end of the Indy game and the Miami game, but I think Kubiak understands the best strategy against the Raiders is to run and run often. Now if we lose this game and Schaub passes the ball 40-50 times, I will be b****ing along with the rest of you come Monday.
I honestly dont have a problem with the playcalling.... Last year it was Kubiak not being able to "come out swinging"at the beginning of both halves, that got under my skin.... This year we seem to set a tone at the beginning of both halves offensively.... I think Kubiak is finally gettin the picture...Obviously there is still work to do
Andre wants to go beast mode and return in 2 weeks. http://www.chron.com/sports/texans/article/Texans-Johnson-feeling-pumped-about-2207823.php Receiver Andre Johnson said there is no timetable for his return, but his gut feeling is two weeks. Johnson said he underwent a "minor procedure" that left him with two stitches and no pain or soreness even though he's undergoing rehabilitation for the hamstring injury he suffered in Sunday's 17-10 victory over Pittsburgh. Johnson plans to have the stitches out in five days. "Then I can go all out," he said. "If I had to pick a date, I'd say two weeks. You can't really put a timetable on it, but that's my gut feeling based on how good I feel right now." Johnson suffered the injury without being touched. He'll miss Sunday's game against Oakland the next game at Baltimore. There's an outside chance he could play in the Oct. 23 Tennessee game, but more than likely, he'll return the next week against Jacksonville. "I wish I could go out there now and test it," Johnson said. "I'm walking and riding the bike and bending it, and I don't have any pain or soreness. "Of all the procedures I've had done, this is the best I've felt after it. I'm pumped." Johnson suffered a tear in his lower hamstring where it connects to a tendon. "I had a lot of scarring around my tendon," he said. "That's where the irritation was coming from. They cleaned it up." The procedure is designed to speed the healing process. "The only part that bothers me a little is where the stitches are," he said. "Once I get them out and the cut's closed up, I'll be ready to go. "When you have something like that happen, you definitely wonder how long it's going to take to heal. When it happened, I felt pain. I didn't know what it was. I remember grabbed my leg. I was scared when it happened, but once I got the MRI, I felt better."
