He was well above-average defensively. Burke is a work in progress right now, but hopefully he gets to be decent sometime soon.

Hyperextended elbow on a dumbass headfirst slide into second on opening day. Can hit, but couldn't throw, per Gar on Tuesday.

ah, great news. well, relatively speaking anyways. i thought it was b/c of the lefty vs righty crap that Garner's been pulling the last year or so.

If only we played tonight :( Not the way to start the season, and I'm sure they are ready to get out there and win their first game. An off day is not what they need.

"Burke should have made that catch but he's going to have growing pains just like Willy and we expected that. Now if you excuse me I hope I can make it in time to KFC to order a big box. It comes with crispy strips, popcorn chicken, a drumstick extra crispy or original, two sides, biscuit, and large drink. Yummy."

Or maybe it's exactly what they need? Refocus, maybe get a little pissed off, and start over on Friday.

And get Cheo out there to hit Burke some fungos.

haha ... well its not what I need. I guess for some it might be good. I'm always of the opinion that after you lose you want to get right back out there, but I'm sure for some of them the off day might give them a chance to reset.

Hopefully it will get the big bats (Berkman, Lee) going strong when St. Louis rolls into town.

Me, neither. I've been waiting for Houston baseball since September of last year. I'm bummed out about the day off!

this could be an UGLY Houston Sports season. much like last year, the Astros may suck, the Texans will suck, and unless the Rockets get their **** together, they'll be out of the first round.

Willy T eventually became pretty serviceable out there (still nowhere near gold glove)... but when he first came up, he was pretty awful.

Bad reads, bad routes, and on occasion... just flat out not catching the ball (as Burke did last night). This was also after playing a full season of CF at AAA (which Burke has not done).

Now, Burke doesn't have the speed to make up for bad routes (like Willy had), nor does he have the arm strength... but the Astros really will benefit from having his bat in the lineup everyday over Taveras'.

Once again... I still can't believe another team is making the mistake of batting Willy 1st. He's NOT a leadoff hitter... he's either an 8 hitter or defensive replacement/pinch runner.

AP sucked tonight. I think he will be decent but won't be worth that much money. Don't think his 85 mph fastball could survive in the AL East.

Define "suck". Put a number to it.

I believe the Texans will be better than last year. If less than 10 wins is "suck", then they will "suck"--because they will win 8 or 9 games (my prediction). I'll call that "improved" as opposed to "suck". And, with 2-14 still clearly in the forefront of my memory, 8 or 9 wins is a welcome change.

    orrrrrrrrr....

the astros will find themselves, soon....the Texans will improve from last season...and the Rockets win their first playoff series in umpteen years.

keep your glass half full, just in case.
