Andy Pettitte only had three fairly strong years, including a 17-9 season with a 2.30 ERA leading his team to the pennant (and by far the best pitcher in baseball post ASB).
I think Drabek was at least moderately successful here. Looking back at the stats.. yeah first year he was 9-18, 1.27 WHIP and 3.79 ERA 238 innings! Workhorse if nothing else.. looks like some bad luck and/or lack of run support there? 2nd year was sick.. 12-6, 2.84 ERA, 1.08 WHIP! 121 K's in 165 IP. The final 2 years, not so much. But hey, 2 productive years at least.. and the 2nd one, he did pitch like the guy we thought we were getting (Swindell, another story..)
i continue to maintain that we are the worst bases loaded, no outs team of all time. even when we score, it's some weak **** like a sac fly or, in this case, a hbp. in other words, nothing that actually requires us to put it in play strongly like a laced single or a double to the gap. we've been this way my whole life. i mean woody williams bloop was the best ball we hit in the 4 ab's with the bases loaded.
Borkowski getting loose... and just as I type this we lost the lead, 2 run single. Why couldn't we do that?
Ugh ... I know its gonna take Burke some time to adjust to the outfield, but he can't have many more like that.
I think he is talking about the situation in the 4th inning when Woody, Biggio, Burke, and Berkman came up with the bases loaded. Only Woody came up with in a no outs situation.
that one is one he better learn from now on. keep your eye on the ball into the glove... catch it in front of you if you can.. etc.
this ain't our first rodeo. my old roommate and i used to bet on how we'd manage to get out of it without somehow scoring a run. we can get pretty creative but the ol' pop fly/strikeout followed by a double play is always a solid guess.
