Here's two oft-used clichés that are getting awfully tired. I wonder how many people would admit honestly to saying, "he looks lost out there!" after having only read a few box scores and not seen a guy bat!
no, i've seen him. he's awful. he's gotta go. i mean, after one game i was pretty disappointed...but 2 games like that??? come on!!! he's gotta go!! he sucks!
seriously. I WATCHED the game. I SAW the HR with my own eyes, so don't question me or how much i care!
I was actually thinking of their pitching, which has looked pretty intimidating, especially, yesterday. Although, their hitting has looked good too. Yes, the Astros starters have done well, which is even more frustrating. Bullpen, awful.
Outside of the starting pitching, the Astros' execution has been poor in just about all phases of the game. defense - Biggio's halfass attempt on the go-ahead blooper last night, Burke getting a bad jump on same play baserunning - Burke not reading the ball & then taking a circuitous route to the plate Monday situational hitting - Roy not getting a bunt down, the regulars going 1-10 with RISP They do a couple more of the little things right and the bullpen meltdowns either don't happen or don't matter.
If that continues for an extended sample size, don't we have to look at coaching? A distracted, non-executing team, even the veterans?
I dunno. With Burke, a lot of baserunning is just instinct (some have it - Bagwell, some don't - Berkman), and his defense in CF is a work in progress (but everybody knew that going in). Not sure if a new coach could light a fire under Biggio's or Berkman's or any of the vets' asses, if that's even a problem, and I don't think it is. It's up to players to make plays. 160 to go.
true, but if it's requiring someone to restore *focus* on the tasks at hand, some of the little things, the individual games, etc... then that could be done by a new coach (more so than lighting a fire under a vet like Biggio). Not that i'm calling for Garner to be replaced by ANY means.. (and i know neither of you were either)
Well, if Clemens's three choices right now are Astros, Yankees, or retirement, I think it's safe to say the Astros bullpen has convinced him to cross one of those choices off his list.
btw, tonight's game is on KNWS not FSN. You know what that means, you can watch two channels at the sametime! I wonder what will be on tonight on NBC.
Other than Clemens, would you consider any pitcher coming home to Houston to have been a success with the Astros? Good luck Woody.
omg that is a scary thought! i remember he did some extra innings in that 18 inning game against the braves and received the win. lol he could probably pitch till he was 50 if he was reduced to a closers role.
Sadly, it is on KNWS. I've got the Rockets playing another ugly game on FSN. Oh well, hope they win. Go Rockets...Go Stros.
