Or Biggio leading off? Given their respective OBP last seasons, its almost critical to start the game with the 1st 2 hitters getting on base 30% of the time. Not to mention that it wastes Biggio's remaining value at the plate, which is his power. They'll make alot more use of it if they bat him 6th.

everett's best year at the plate was when he was batting in the 2 hole. purpura said they liked his speed toward the top of the lineup.

batting aside, his play in the 9th was fantastic. another incredible play that AE makes look routine.

Yeah I don't mind him in the 2 hole at all. He even hit a double last night so he definitely was not the reason we lost.

he also saved at least 1 run in the 9th on that catch in shallow left over his shoulder.

Everett didn't hurt the Stros this game batting second, but don't think he's a good fit there. I would prefer he bat 8 so the pitcher could sacrifice him to 2nd. He's more likely to score from 2nd on a single than Ausmus.

I would prefer Everett to play here.

Or, we could trade the greatest defensive shortstop of all time for a B-Rate closer, and then move Burke to SS, and retrade Jennings for Willy T. And sign Nolan Ryan, to fill the gap Jennings creates.

Well, I get how Lidge f'd up...However, its only one game and the underlying problem is still run support...I think he'll be fine, but by June, well...

    Edit...

WW for the remaining games and Lidge saves on of them....

Adam Everett 2004 Stats batting 2nd:
    84 Games, 338 AB, 98 Hits, 61 R, 27 RBI, 14 SB, .290 AVG, .330 OBP

Not bad. OBP could be higher though. He had 52 strikeouts to only 15 walks. Aside from 2004, he's only batted 2nd 10 times. Make that 11 after last night.

If only the Astros had Willy T's 0-4 with 4 Ks yesterday. Or his mediocre average with zero power and sub-par OBP ability. That's what this team needs!

seriously...usually threads that get this big get split up for the next game, right? Eh, depends on castor either way. Let's go stros tonight! Take the positives...hope LUKE and BURKE continue and have a huge start! (2 of the 3 biggest question marks in the lineup, Ensberg being the 3rd)

There was a quote in the paper from Lance about how Everett is a really good fastball hitter.

The only place he'll see fastballs in this lineup is in front of Berkman/Lee. If the other guys (mainly Ensberg and Scott) start performing to the level they're capable of, and Berkman and Lee remain constants, then there's definitely a chance the offense can thrive even with Everett batting 2nd.

Hell, if you're able to turn mediocre Everett into simply below-average Everett based on him getting to see more fastballs, the team is better off.
