did anybody see the team ignore oswalt after he rounded the bases and went back to the dugout? He didn't get any high fives until like a minute later when he took his seat on the bench.... too hilarious! i think this team has that feel to it again...
Another benefit of a blowout (besides the win itself): It gives Garner a chance to "scratch his itch" to play all of his players (and give the ones that need rest... rest), so that he doesn't have to put out a crappy lineup at least once per series (which lately has been the game we've been trying to sweep teams in). Thus, bring in Lamb, Munson, Wilson, Burke, Orlando at your pleasure. Play them all out of position too... see if Munson can play the OF, Lamb can play catcher, and Burke can play SS. See if Wilson can pitch (hell... he may be of more use to us like that). See if Jim Hickey can be a bullpen coach. See if Cecil Cooper can coach 1B. See what happens if you switch places with Doug Mansolino as 3rd base coach... I doubt anybody would even notice (based on the resemblance). It also gives Roy a chance to work on some of his pitches he's shelved from time to time (like the really slow curve). He so rarely gets so much wiggle room to do that. Of course, if this is a special night (for other reasons), don't do anything... and nobody even begin to mention what I'm talking about.
Cant believe Carpenter has given up 6 runs tonight. If the Red Birds keep playing the way they have recently, the division is not completely out of the question.
Too late, that was enough to upset the gods. Trust me I got killed on here for doing the same thing about a month ago.
That's the thing... all three of these teams are unbelievably streaky... they all have the ability to look awful out there. Except that our biggest weakness (our offense) is still a weakness you can win games with. The Reds and Cards both have plenty of offense... but their starting pitching is in shambles.
Does anyone remember that game in Pittsburgh a couple years ago when we were ahead by 6 runs with 2 outs in the 9th and no one on base that we ended up losing? Every time we have a big lead, I've thought of that game since that day. How bout we get Garner to just quit putting out crappy lineups once a series ... haha
The gods couldn't have done anything worse than ending Maddux's with a rain delay... at this point, a bbs comment won't hold a candle to that.
I remember it vividly... 2001. Vinny Castialla has THREE Hr's that day, and Mike Jackson came on for what seemed to be a 1-2-3 ninth. Wrong. Then, Dierker brings that bum in the playoffs, and he blew chunks again... he was Miceli before there was a Miceli. Ironically both games, its Billy Wagner giving up the go ahead runs... nobody gives Jackson enough blame.... then again, nobody gives Qualls enough blame either.
Aubrey Huff is BLAZING!!! 11 for 20 5 RBI Tonight!!! Resign Him!! As Gene Peterson would say: How sweet it is, this baby's over.
