So, everytime a pitcher gives up a run... I will say "he didn't really do his job", because according to you, a good bullpen pitcher should always strike out the side whenever he pitches. C'mon... its not like he walked in a run on 12 pitches or something. Nady hit a fastball that was at his ANKLES! The key I'm looking for in Lidge is his control (obviously), and the type of slider he's throwing (late breaking one). I saw both of them looking good tonight... as they did on Tuesday... and as they did in the D'backs game before he got spent after Hudson put up a battle (and he didn't have anything for Drew).
How about get through the inning without giving up a run? Can we agree on that? Lidge is probably an above-average bullpen pitcher still, but he seems to be past his dominant stage. I'd like to see how Nieve handles the pressure.
i've been about as harsh on lidge as anyone here but you guys are being completely ridiculous today. he doesn't have to be flawless to be good. his outing wasn't brilliant but he got the job done and he didn't look completely clueless like in the past. i'm not going to say he's turned the corner from earlier in the season but he has been looking better and i don't think this was any kind of step back. also, just because he gave up a run doesn't mean the same thing would have happened if he only had the one run lead. closers are generally sharper in save situations then with a 4 run lead. y'all don't remember billy wagner? like nick i'd rather garner have brought in someone else, but no harm done.
We swept the series and have won seven of our last nine. How bout let's focus on that instead of Lidge giving up ONE run in a 5-2 Astros victory.
We don't need to worry about the Dodgers. They will win the NL West. Let's just worry about our own games, and who knows, we may even catch up to the Cards.
Anyone else notice that Luke Scott seemed to get something in his eye...like maybe a bug...at the very last second on the last out? Right as it is going into his glove, he jerks his head to the side and takes his eyes off the ball, then he was squinting as he was running back into the dugout. That could have been really bad had he missed that one.
Dude, you're talking about Astros fans. We could win the next 17 games in a row and some people would find something to complain about.
man, if hirsh somehow hits the ground running and lights the league on fire, we should have the sickest rotation i've seen in a while. i won't lie....i certainly had my doubts about this season. truly amazing how quick we're back in this thing. go stros.
If that's your criteria then that appears to mean that unless Lidge has an ERA of 0.00 he is not doing his job. Pitchers will give up runs, they will blow saves.
ummm, he's still crap. 3 hrs don't change my opinion. i'm not that fickle, blinded, and easly mislead like you morons. ausmus is awesome now that he got a few hits last night too, right? nice try. your bs is old and tired.
