This is the Phillies Super Bowl. They could make the playoffs for the first time in many years. Astros should sweep.
Tonight seems like a pretty big start for Lance. Final start of the regular season in preparation for the playoffs. It sure would be nice to see him have an efficient outing. Javier has certainly made the game 3 starter a discussion… at a minimum
Do not see the upside of pitching Framber the last game of the season? Framber has looked like he is out of gas his last two starts. Dusty might as well rest him ... or pull him after 50 pitches.
Framber is set to pitch game 2 October 13 He MUST pitch in the playoffs. So is it better that he pitches on 12 days rest or 7? I think he should be given 5 innings/65-70 pitches then watch the rest of the season from the dugout. Framber relies on command as much as any pitcher. I like the 7 days of rest better than the 12 days of rust.
If Milwaukee loses tonight, Philly clinches. I expect September callups to pitch games 2 and 3, they'll need all hands on deck against Saint Louis (or New York)
Part of this is integrity of the game because Milwaukee has an outside chance of securing the last WC if the Astros sweep. The balance between rest and staying sharp falls on staying sharp with 5 days off during the WC series.
Agree. In the playoffs, you really need to go with the hot hand. There are times when the overall body of work from 2022 is outweighed by who is pitching well down the stretch. And Javier has been lights out recently. I would want to put Javier either before or after Framber in the rotation, given their contrasting pitching styles. Framber's sink and Javier's rise on his pitches. If it's a Game 7 situation (or Game 5 in the ALDS), then I'd consider piggybacking Javier after Framber in the same game.
I remember when the playoff rosters pretty much set themselves because of subpar production. No pitcher who fails to make the playoff rosters will deserve it. It's just a numbers game. I hope the petition to replace Castro and Brantley with Brown and Hensley is already ready for Manfred.
Hensley does not need any waiver. He is eligible. Brown and Yanier Diaz will need waivers if the Astros want them on the roster
