During the broadcast yesterday, Bill Brown made a good point that is worth repeating. When looking over the course of a very long MLB season, the first three games (now four) of the MLB season is the equivalent of the 1st Quarter of the 1st game of the NFL season. Would anyone make judgments on any football team based upon 1 Quarter of play? Yes, we stink right now but the teams we're playing are some of the best in baseball. After are our upcoming road trip to StL and Chi, we come back home for Fla, Pit and Cin. I think we'll have a better idea at that point of what kind of team we'll have.
That's so true to...I couldn't agree more. Yesterday I was watching the game with a buddy of mine and he said something like "how do you watch this ****?" and I told him that "yeah it's been a rough four games and it'll probably be a rough nine game start to the season but after we will have over 150 games left" that is so much time to recover even If we start 0-9 (which I don think we will). I have a strong feeling we are going to win today. And I think we could go into st. Louis and win the series. We could be 3-6 going to chi town and I would be more than happy with that. Mostly because we have played three teams that could very well represent the NL in the world series..
I could be wrong, but I bet if you go look at the Jets/Texans thread through about 12:45pm or 1pm on gameday, you'll find a lot of the same reactions there.
Well, that's not 100% true. Roy and Wandy gave us "quality" starts (with virtually the same stat line) with 6 ip and 3 ER. Obviously Myers didn't pitch well though, he was very lucky to give up only 4 runs, lol. Yet, the team right now is a team that doesn't have much pop so if we get down beyond 1-0 I think we're doomed period right now.
Well, the being down 28-0 in the first quarter of a football game is a pretty good bet you'll lose the game. Losing a game in football is like losing 16 games in baseball. So using the football analogy, the Astros are headed to an 0-16 start.
Im sorry. If the same bunch of guys are going out and playing to this horrible start, it stands to reason that its not gonna get much better for the rest of the season with the same bunch of guys. If you watch baseball and compare this team to decent teams in the league, we aint one of them. This is just a glorified AAA ballclub.
It has nothing to do with 1st few games. This team is seriously flawed. They should have had an everyone must go sale last year or the year before.
Sorry, but the guy sucks. He does the same stuff every year. Beast in AAA but can't hit for squat in the bigs. Not to mention he sucks at defense. Castro will be here soon at least.
Here's anther "we suck" stat: 4 games in, only one team has yet to hit a home run. Guess who? Yeah, I know it's early, but you can't pull out those stats very deep into the season.
So wait.... We gave Moehler $3m to be a long relief guy??? And we can't afford to sign draft picks above the slot???? I give up
It's never been that the Astros can't afford to go above slot. It's that Bud Selig doesn't like it when teams do, and McLane doesn't want to upset Bud. He did go above slot a few times a year ago, so maybe it's getting better.
OK, thanks Cat. Still gotta admit the way we allocated funds in the offseason is poor though? Nice start by Paulino there, throwing serious 99mph heat and good control of the breaking ball. I like!
Absolutely agree 100% - biggest problem with this team is that it consistently pays decent money for mediocrity (Moehler is an example), the likes of which most teams can produce from within their farm system for virtually free. The issue with the Astros isn't the ever popular "Drayton's cheap!" theory - Drayton and the Astros spend a bigger percentage of their revenue on payroll than nearly any team in baseball. They spend the necessary money. It's the way it's allocated that is the problem.
Argh, I just saw Feliz smiling and talking to Rollins while we're 0-4 and 1-0 down. Trade him now!!!!
