This has been Berkman's worst season to date from either side of the plate. Hopefully, he'll continue his MO of following a bad season with a great one in 2010.
OPS vs RHP/LHP: 2009: .992/.629 2008: 1.057/.803 2007: .926/.800 2006: 1.142/.789 2005: .967/.844 2004: 1.069/.836 2003: .950/.847 2002: 1.059/.715 2001: 1.099/.867 2000: 1.015/.719 He's had worse seasons from the left side but he's never been this bad from the right.
Pence with a monster series. Jose V. has been pretty much lights out since coming back from that injury.
We might be out of it, but what a nice sweep of the Phillies. It's always fun to watch your team win still
What I like about baseball is I don't have to worry about fans keep demanding that their team tanks to get a higher draft pick. Just win!
Albert Pujols played 3 games at AAA. LOL You're so full of it. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/P/Albert-Pujols.shtml
LOL! He's backkkkkk! Two weeks ago: That didn't last long, did it? I guess it's hard to lose your stalking obsessions. Who's full of it now? And by the way, I already acknowledged in this thread that Pujols had 14 at-bats in AAA. The point is, as I already said, if 200 at-bats is sufficient to judge a player's entire career, why isn't 14? And if it's not and 200 is, where exactly is the line? If you'd like to have a substantive debate, I'd love to hear your take on that. Of course, I'm guessing this has more to do with your bizarre obsession than it does you actually having an issue with the topic. Troll, much?
200 is much much more than 14 in terms of perspective on a potential prospect. Towles has looked awful every year we've seen him and no better this year. You should have a higher batting average in the minors, there are no excuses for batting .276 against little leaguers.
Huh? He's looked awful every year you've seen him in Houston? In 2007, he came up in September and hit .375 with a .432 OBP and 1.000 OPS -- you consider that awful? And this year, do you know how many at-bats Towles has had? 14!!! So it's not OK to judge Pujols by 14 at-bats in AAA, but it is OK to judge Towles by 14 at-bats this year? Basically, what you mean is Towles was terrible in 146 at-bats in one season (2008) in which he was rushed straight from AA to the bigs with no AAA experience, correct? Moreover, AAA players are little leaguers? I don't know how often it needs to be said that batting average is irrelevant. It's a game of OBP, OPS, etc. Towles' AAA OPS over the past two years has been in the .850-.900 range, which is damn good. But, if you want to focus on one tiny statistic during one season that wasn't even that bad, let's provide some perspective. Since you object so much to using Pujols and his 14 at-bats as an example, here's a listing of a few prominent current/former Astros (there are many more, these are just a few at quick glance) and their batting average in their final seasons in the minors. I'm going to use 146 at-bats as the magic number of what they must have had at a minimum, since apparently that's what it took to end Towles' career after 2008. Pudge Rodriguez: .274 Hunter Pence: .283 Michael Bourn: .277 Moises Alou: .273 Ken Caminiti: .272 Miguel Tejada: .275 Man, those guys have had terrible careers! Why didn't we cut them all after they didn't hit .330 against little leaguers? FIRE POOPURA
Yeah, but that's September. September's a small sample size where the pitchers aren't used to you and it's just pretty much all luck until you prove otherwise. So his season of 2008 is hereby scrapped according to the council. Furthermore, we should have cut all the players you listed. My batting average projections have never failed in my career as a major league scout.
WOW! I was hoping for 2-2...Astros sweep the Phils. Very good series especially for the pitching staff.
Pence is tied with Lee for the team lead in homers and they have nearly identical OBP and SLG. Hopefully he starts becoming more consistent from month to month.
I do have you on ignore but when your reply is copied by several posters in a row and it's such an ABSURD use of statistics, I couldn't help but reply. When you're comparing Albert Pujols' 14 at bats at AAA as a 20 year old with the AAA numbers of a 25 year old JR Towles you're not only using an inappropriate sample size, you're comparing players at such vastly different ages that even if the sample sizes were identical it would be completely meaninless. Get a clue. If pointing out ridiculous posts is a bizarre obsession then I'm guilty.
And I already acknowledged, long before your personal attack, all of those things. To me, if you're going to claim 146 at-bats is a reasonable sample to determine a player's career, what isn't? That's why I referenced Pujols. The reason I'm accusing you of having an obsession is because you continue to dance around the issue. If judging Pujols by 14 at-bats isn't a reasonable sample, but judging Towles by 146 is, where is the line? Don't just throw out insults. Actually suggest a standard; otherwise, you're just trolling.
