Normally I would agree, but not in this case. Castro hasn't caught Framber much at all other than the 2 innings Framber threw the day he got hurt in spring training. Also, Maldonado hasn't caught Odorizzi much while Castro caught him a bunch in Minnesota. So having Castro go tomorrow makes sense as well.
Yeah, if Lamet goes more than 5 we could be in trouble. He has really good stuff, but his arm issues have been a problem for them. Hopefully this isn’t the night where he puts it all together. Of course the Padres could be thinking the same thing about Framber. That makes this a really interesting game actually, with both guys being Dominican too. I’m expecting the Padres to win, but who knows, this one is tough to call.
He's gone 2-2-2-2-3 IP (29-30-29-37-41 pitches) in his games so I'd expect more of that. Stros need to put pitches on him early. They did call up Nick Ramirez so they'd have 1 rested arm in the pen. Also, Machado back in the lineup at DH after a week off resting his shoulder.
I would almost rather they IL Brantley, give him the time he needs, and get reinforcements on the roster
They don't have anyone. The Astros have a 40 man roster problem. The only position players on the 40 man roster that can be called up are Nova, Toro (just came back from the IL today), Robel Garcia, and Garrett Stubbs. They need to make trades or make tough choices and cut people. I would start with Robel Garcia. He is a strikeout machine in mlb and in AAA. 7 Ks in 15 plate appearances in AAA.
Lamet has good numbers. Framber has no numbers yet. Doubt Valdez goes beyond 5, at the most. Good luck bullpen and bats.
They have guys just not on the 40 man. That's why they need make moves so they can get some of Siri, Meyers, De La Cruz, Ronnie Dawson, etc on the 40 man roster.
Hoping for the best, but keeping Framber in the low expectation category for at least this season. Javier is getting a raw deal right now, but eventually folks will realize he is our best starting pitcher outside of Verlander. .
He really hasn’t shown much, but people keep signing the guy for whatever reason. He had one really good AAA season, so I guess the allure of that keeps him around despite the fact that he’s getting to be a little old for a prospect. Gotta think he’s running out of time though.
Well, now we know yet another reason our catcher who knows how to hit isn't allowed to hit (beyond service time). No Brantley, no Yordan, no Castro, and no ability to pull up the hotter minor leaguers because of a clogged 40-man. Something needs to happen to clear up the roster a bit.
