Altuve had a crap game regardless of whether he should have taken the hit. He could have likely worked a walk to win the game as well.
Yea, the mood is a little foul around here today. Understandably. But I keep reminding myself that as long as we make the playoffs, all that matters is the state of the team come late September. That may look like the team we saw last night or it might look like the one during our winning streaks. If the later, its going to be fun. If the former, not so much.
On a positive note, Astros starting pitchers are pretty geeewd. Ages of those starters = 24, 24, 24, 26, 27,27 and the ageless Greinke Era of those starters: 2.25(1game), 2. 96, 2.93, 3.22, 3.28, 3.97(Greinke) That ranks 4th in the entire AL with a 3.6 Era. And if you take out one specific 10 Era from a specific starter the era goes down to 3.5 To make a long story longer, There are 7 pitchers who are playing their hearts out and playing like they deserve that rotation spot. And then there is Jake who gets seniority because of what he did that one time at age 25 and that other time a couple of seasons ago. Hope he gets a no hitter tonight or keeps it under 5 runs. I'll take either one.
Darnit Baker. You send him to Sugarland to find his command and you know good and well he left it in Arkansas.
Agreed. For whatever reason the core of this team changes in the post-season. Aside from the BP implosions, ya just wish they were getting the little things done to win games like last night
The bullpen disaster lands at Click's feet. We all knew that with ONE starting pitcher (Greinke) that had thrown 150 innings in a season that the bullpen was going to be taxed heavily. Adding Baez, Stanek, resigning Raley, and paying for Castro weren't the right moves. Click did nothing at the deadline last year as well. Is there a fire Click thread? We might need one.
Will Jake instill confidence from Astros fans going forward after today? My guess is negative, but don't mind being wrong
But the bully performed well that one time Stros need to get healthy and replace some guys with starters who can relieve multiple innings each appearance. The offense could also stop leaving a dozen on-base every game
Good AB by Altuve. He worked a walk after being down and swinging at some questionable pitches. Leadoff runner on. No DP. Score him plus more
