i remember after the game 5 reffing atrocity between dallas and miami in the nba finals making a comment how amazing it was that you were perfectly ok with the refs since it was your team getting all the calls. essentially pointing out that you are one of the most biased analysts of ref performance i've ever seen. and you tried to imply i was somehow the same by saying how surprising it was that i was complaining about the refs (though many articles were written about the same thing). well...this thread is making my point nicely. a game which has featured one bad call against the astros (the everett play) is somehow the worst umpired game you've possibly ever seen and "words can't describe what an injustice this is." as nice as a makeup call would've been on the other bang-bang play, the pads guy clearly got there before burke on the replay. the ball 4 from backe was somehow a sure-fire strike? it was high and outside. i was praying we might get one of those sympathy strike 1's pitchers sometimes get on 3-0 counts, but it really wasn't even close enough for that. and the berkman strike 3 was close, but the replays seemed pretty clear in it crossing the inside corner of the plate (and it was thigh high so up and down wasn't a problem). lance had no problem with the call and just turned around. the real problem with this game has not been the umps, but bad breaks and bad playing. we hit pop-ups and SD catches them over the railing, they hit grounders and they find the hole, guys take terrible hacks and get a double to drop in a few feet fair down the opposite line, we throw a pitch about 4 inches off the plate inside and mike cameron takes it deep like it's nothing. things are going well for the pads and badly for us. having everett called out didn't help, but we aren't losing b/c of the umps and it's far from the worst umped game ever.
Rocketman don't take me so serious !! at least 90% of the people on this board post here to just vent and say what the feel. Everyone can't be like the Dali Lama like you and be so calm. I'm not sitting on my computer hitting it and bashing things. I get upset because I have a deep love for my Stros and Roxs. Please feel free to pick on some of the other posters as well...Have a Good Day..
Barring a comeback, they lost the series. Who here couldn't see that coming? I mean jeez, there is still plenty of baseball left, whether or not they make the postseason its a good bet they would lose a few series along the way...you can't win 'em all. Who was pitching this series for the Astros...Pettite-Hirsch-Backe. Not hard to imagine losing this one. Now look at the upcoming Cubs series... Oswalt-Clemens-Pettite; that's another potential sweep right there. And guess who's next for Cincy and StL..each other. This is a minor step back, but nothing to get hugely worked up over.
This thread is making the point nicely... that you simply have an agenda against me and lack any objectivity on the subject. Yes, articles were written about Game 5 and not this game... because it's the NBA Finals and this is one of 162 regular season baseball games. If this was a World Series game, you'd have a lot more attention and a lot more talk. There are several posters in this thread as well as Jim Deshaies that disagree with your statement that the Padres guy beat Burke on the replay. And, even if he wasn't, the right thing to do would've been to give the Astros the out to make up for the call the last inning. The ball four from Backe was even with his stomach and over the outside corner of the plate. That much was clear on the replay. The strike three to Lance was both low and inside, and the "he didn't argue" excuse is weak at best. In a sport where simple arguments often lead to getting tossed from a game, he's not going ot make a big deal over a play like that in the third inning. Yes, there's definitely someone in this thread who the term "one of the most biased analysts of ref performance ever" would apply to... but you need to look in the mirror to see it. I don't see how in the world you can act as if all these calls were excusable and in the same breath call Game 5 "an atrocity." Guess what? The Game 5 calls were open to interpretation and debate, just like these are. The difference is that you didn't have an agenda that game.
Everyday Eddie blows another one for the Reds... Phillies tie it up. Got to looooove the National League.
Hey Adam, try to do that when it means something. This loss wouldn't hurt nearly as bad is those A-Hole Reds would lose.
damn i didnt know embree still threw this hard...96 on that last one; then again the radar gun could be quick
Reds just took the lead. How many times has that team won the game in the final inning; everytime I look they seem to either have a come-from-behind win or a walkoff. Seems to be the only thing right now keepin them in the WC lead.
its official. i am really hating the reds. This team is like a bunch of cockroaches. But im sure teams say that about us towards the end of the season.
You would hate to have these 2 losses turn into one of those bad stretches, I don't think it will, the team is still playing well. Still I think we need one of those NLCS Game 6 performances out of Roy O against Zambrano and the Cubs tommorow night.
