So based on 1-2 starts, you can't see anyone other than Cole, Manaea, or Severino in it? You don't see any scenarios where, say, Verlander or Morton end up better after 5 or 6 starts? Or Ohtani? Or any of a dozen other pitchers?
Just sayin', based on the data available yeserday, those were frontrunners. Will the situation change? Sure. That's why we watch the regular season. You're making a mountain out of a mole hill. Seems to be a specialty of certain people around here.
I'm just glad that this first homestand is over. Now that all the celebrating of last year is done with, time to lock in.
Eh - you posted this: In terms of the AL Pitcher of the Month, right now I can only see Manaea (OAK) and Severino (NYY) being in competition with Cole. Sale and Price from BOS are not far behind. I posted that looking at that 7 days into the month is stupid. It's not pitcher-of-the-week. You're now changing from the only-people-in-contention to the-situation-will-change - that's exactly my point, that things will change and suggesting that only 3 or 5 pitchers are even in contention is silly. As an example as of one day later, I would argue the list would already be different.
By charisma I meant that fans were intrigued* when he started, similar to Ohtani. * (copyright Alan Ashby)
I believe what Major was saying is, nobody should give a **** about the first couple of starts or first few games. He can sure correct me if I've misstated him.
Any chance any of the next few games against the twins get canceled from the weather? Red Sox won again, though they’ll finally play a real team with an impending Yankees series coming up, right as Bogarts may have suffered a bad ankle injury. That rivalry is going to be intense this year, not unlike our mandated rivalry with the hated Dbacks
Twins cancelled today's game, doubt they'd want to do that to Bobrek 2 days in a row, but who knows? Wind chill Monday is 29 at noon, 30 at 1st pitch, and 26 at 11PM. Wind doesn't look too bad, but I don't know what it does at the Stadium. If I was the MLBPA I would raise all kinds of hell. They just had San Diego playing in Houston the first week of the season, and Houston in Dallas, etc.... They've got to schedule these early series better.
They only would have thought about cancelling if Wednesday was going to be a good DH day, but it is the only day of the three showing showers. Wednesday is the only game I can’t go to (I’ll be on a plane), so they better get Monday and Tuesday in.
The cold weather certainly sucks, but they can't feasiby just keep all the northern teams in the south for the first month. Maybe they can limit them better, but there's gonna be some risk of cold.
ETA: etc...I'm too lazy too look into it further, but they send Boston to Florida/Tampa for 6 games, then they send Tampa to Fenway for 3? Yankees to Toronto (retractable roof)...Houston to Minnesota? This early? MLB needs to get their head out of their ass about several things, I'd start with this one. At least they've determined that the WS will be played in October and not November. So that's a start. Trever Bauer was PISSED yesterday and I agree with him.
Slobbering is tame for him... he did much worse. As for Ashby, he was a regular at the strip clubs in his day and lived a fast life. Another guy that said the wrong thing to Dr. Death during the off season and got called out on it.
I feel that they've got more than enough of a decent sample size of weather patterns over the decades and decades of playing these games in these locations... basically, they just don't see it as big of a detriment to have to make special concessions for year-in/year-out. I feel like we bring up the same issues every year. Agreed, it could be better... or if they did schedule a bunch of warm-weather games early... and those home teams got off to better starts year after year, some of the cold weather cities may claim this seems unfair? Who knows...
Uh no. There's enough southern and domed and roofed places to make it happen. They don't do it because of initial travel and "opening day" bullshit. If the Stros can't open at home opening weekend, then **** the Detroit Tigers or whoever.
Where the hell are you flying off to, Hawaii? This is not a big deal in the minors, teams usually hold their "star" prospects back until the weather warms up. Pitchers especially, lets them control innings as well.
There’s even more logistical issues than that they have to consider. As it is, it’s almost mid April and there are still cold snaps everywhere. They’re not going to put northern/non-some teams on multiple road trips to start every season. If there was a balanced solution, they would have implemented it by now....
