So JV, Javier and Framber against Seattle? You have to go with those three guys in a possible division deciding series.
I'm the same way. I would have used him over Singleton to pinch hit in the 8th assuming Brantley was unavailable and had Kessinger run. A single then and the Astros win without needing to bat in the 9th assuming no bobrek affect.
Assessment over the next 6 games. Houston vs KC (Houston wins 2-1) Seattle heats Tex 2-1 Houston has 0.5 game lead on Seattle and 1.5 on Texas THEN Houston vs Seattle (Houston loses 1-2) Texas beats LAA 2-1 Houston is 0.5 games back (virtually 2 losses back) of Seattle with 3 to play - division is over and Texas is still 0.5 games back for the WC. Toronto plays 7 vs Tampa (who still has the division they are playing for).
If that were to happen all we’d need is texas to beat Seattle on Thursday when we don’t play and it would be a tie between us and Seattle with both of us 1 game up on Texas but really 2 up because we’d both have the tiebreak on them- I think. You’d have to think a sweep in that situation over AZ would get us in. 2/3 would get us in if the rangers win 2/3. I’m kind of hoping for us and Texas to both sweep this weekend. Texas is bad on the road and I assume Seattle will get them at least a couple times up there if not 3.
5-4 with 2 against the M’s is almost surely a winner too, imo. Unless one of texas or Seattle goes like 6-1 or 5-2 and texas takes out the trash with a sweep of the Angels. That’s on the road- assume the find a way to mess that up.
So why in world did Yordan not start?? If he could pinch hit (and he did) why in the world would he not be starting today?? If this was in NY or BOS or CHI or PHI the media would be all over Dusty on this. There's ten games to go (in a tight race not just to win the Division but to make the playoffs) and you have a day off tomorrow and you're sitting Yordan?? Someone has explaining to do.
Dubon projected full season stats: (Keep in mind this is exclusively either top or bottom of the lineup ABs) .282 BA 110 Runs 14 HRs 63 RBIs Anybody think this is a bat that should rarely see the lineup? I mean that's a near Altuve season.
Maybe Pena is just the Astros version of Big Shot Rob. He will just come alive from now through the playoffs?
Because Dusty did not regard this game as a must win. It was just 1 of 162 to him. Remember kids, "everybody plays".
OK kids let's go over this: Astros must go 3-0 vs KC. No game this weekend should be within 3 runs. Mariners Rangers play each other 7 times. Let's give Seattle 4 of the 7. Let's give the Astros 2 of 3 vs Arizona. Astros 90-69 Seattle 88-71 Texas 87-72 So we would only need 1 of 3 from Seattle to win the division. If the Stros only won 4 of the 6 outside the Seattle series, what happens if everyone finishes 90-72 (Seattle beats us 2-1 and Texas sweep the Angels). Will Seattle have won the season series vs Texas in this instance? If not, we got ourselves a mess heading into the playoffs.
