The hit and run call that got Gattis into 2nd... playing a big role right now. Wellington Castillo is having a forgettable game.
Chris Davis is 31 years old. The orioles will be paying him till he's 51. Took deferred money from his current deal. Pay it out yearly well beyond his contract. Smart guy.
The Bobby Bonilla Financial Plan. It's Friday, July 1, 2016, and we should be thinking about our Fourth of July weekend plans. But as baseball fans, we can't. Why? Because today is all about Bobby Bonilla. A man who last played 5,381 days ago owns this day. Not just this July 1, but every July 1 through 2035. It's the day when the New York Mets pay him $1,193,248.20. The Mets owed Bonilla $5.9 million for the 2000 season and no longer wanted him. So the club negotiated with Gilbert to attach an 8 percent annual interest rate to that money. With the clock starting in 2000, that adds up to $29.8 million. The first installment of the payout came on July 1, 2011, and the Mets will pay their sixth installment on Friday. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...y-bonilla-119-million-today-every-july-1-2035
With no interest apparently, so that actually is a bad deal that he accepted, not something an agent would have campaigned for.
Signed a 7 year / 161 mill last year. (23 mill per year) Instead he's taking 17 mill per year. Saves Baltimore 6 mill a year. Then.... From 2023-2032 he receives 3.5 mill per year. From 2033-2037 he receives 4.9 mill per year.
Ahh I'm sure he will be retired in Longview, Texas. Living like a King. NBA players should take deals like that. Avoid being broke.
It's one hell of an annuity. Doesn't help the teams like in MLB though, NBA/NFL guys should absolutely do that privately. People tell them to, some actually listen. That seems very weird. There has to be more to it.
Time to take some of our players out for tomorrow's noonie. Breggie at 2nd let marwie pitch and inning.
And McCullers, and Marisnick, and Morto....****. Lots of time between now and then. eta: really nice to see Janish make a career out of things (2 more years for pension I think). He was incredibly good at Rice and was a very, very cool guy.
That's an awesome idea. I wonder if Davis would mind giving me a million, it's not like he would miss it and he could spread out the payments over 30 years for all I care. Just pay me something like $40,000 a year or so and I'll be good.
