I'm not even sure its that he offers more right now, but he's so much younger with room to grow with more playing time and Sam hit his peak 5 years ago if not earlier. Asik gives us something to work with on a rebuilding team and Sam was way too inconsistent last year for a 10 year vet. If we were trying to win this year, I don't think we would have traded Sam for a hundred PF's, but with rebuilding and Scola on his way out, hopefully Martin as well, Asik would be a great signing. And with not having any stars on the team at all, we might get to see who has the balls to step up and become a star in this league. Not saying Omer Asik is THAT guy, but given good minutes, him and Jones could at least dominate the boards and get 12 PPG each. Why not?

Actually, we adjusted Lin's to closer match the one to Asik.

Talk about a revamped team from one year to the next!!!

Obviously Leslie Alexander let Morey blow up the old team...

With Lowry, Dragic, Scola, Lee (in all likelyhood), Dalembert, Budinger.....

One of last years best line up:

    PG - Lowry, Dragic
PG - Lee (Marin is being dangled around the league too)
    SG - Budinger
    PF - Scola
    Center - Dalembert

From the playing rotation only Parson seems to be valued for his contributions to the team. Martin is still with the team for his expiring contract.

Morey is a real brave GM!!!

And the key to the New team will be Omer Asik and his defensive prowess in the paint...

If the rockets land Howard, so much the better. But I think Morey is reveling in the idea that he is creating a team from the bottom up.

    Asik over Howard

With Asik's three day clock yet to begin, it seems the rockets are far away from agreeing on anything with Dwight Howard since they don't know how much they can take from the Magic.

Has Howard gone out of the question for the rockets. we appear in no rush to Sign Asik, so it would seem that we arn't concerned about hurrying so we can get a deal done with Howard.

Are we choosing Asik as our center next year by not hurrying the process? Or are we going to not honor our offer sheet for the center?

It's July. The season doesn't start until the end of October. There's still loads of time for trades.

Signing Asik won't prevent the Rockets from going after Howard.

It certaintly wouldn't help. Less cap space to take bad contracts. more time the rockets wait, the more time the magic have to explore other options.

But it makes very little sense to pay 8 mill+ for Asik if he's going to be our back up center.

Specially considering Howard will play a bulk of the minutes at the five spot.

Can anyone else make him an offer or is there some kind of FREEZE! in place since we announced an intention?

That seems kind of loosey-goosey; almost as bad as Grundfeld in hiding....

    Motie X DH12 X Asik I don't see any problem with that.
If we get both Lin and Asik Rockets will probably just play their rookie instead of pursuing on DH12.

Verbal agreements are pretty much iron clad in the NBA(probably all profesional sports), a lot of peoples reputations would be on the line if they were ever broken.

I aren't saying they wont try but just not as hard. Cuz the salary of Lin + Asik + DH12 are going tighten up our cap space. This will make us harder to sign 1 more star to persuade DH12 to stay in H-town. Well in this case, if Morey still can manage to get DH12 in a low price, he will just gamble that one of our youth to have a breakout year, so he can trade he for CP3...
Well that is what I believe Morey is trying to do.

it would make it harder to take on additional contracts from orlando in a trade so it might prevent howard trade

Yes, but that only puts the onus on Houston to live up to what they "promised" (or exceed it... ha-ha.... wink-wink in the NY direction).

What stops another team, indeed even the Bulls, from making an equal or better offer?

Does the world of the NBA stop on all this promissory stuff?

What would happen if Houston inadvertently made other moves that would not allow them to follow through on a promise made.... beside egg on their face, I mean?

Seems to me like anything should go until there is ink on paper in the shape of a signature....

These deals are all going to happen in serial, meaning back to back.

After the situation is settled with Lin, they'll move on to Asik. After Asik, they'll move on to Howard.

The whole thing is a domino effect and they can't really move forward until they know exactly the pieces they'll have in place and the numbers they'll be working with.

Patience, my friend. Give it another week or so.

The questions are not driven out of impatience; I'm trying to understand the dynamics.

Does nobody else want Asik or are they standing by to let us have what we want?

You could ask the same question of Lin. A verbal agreement was reached and then days went by before it was actualized.

Is there some gentleman's agreement in place that others will willingly back off or is there some hard-and-fast rule that once a promise is made, no more promises can be procured or offered?

Plus considering asik over Howard is nothing short of idiotic ..
    from a basketball standpoint ...
