Not the biggest hoyer fan, but giving stats in a vacuum isn't helpful. Fitz had a better coach, had 2 very good wr that weren't suspended for being on drugs
who were hoyer's recievers again? like literally, who? I'd say if you compare talent to talent, they are both pretty similar. IOW, give Hoyer the skills talent and he would be marginally better.
In one breath we say Andre was horrible last year, in another breath we say Fitz had better WRs. In one breath we say the OL was bad last year, the next breath we say they made Fitz look good. Make up your minds people! Remember when the Browns were 6 - 3? What happened to their season? Hoyer played worse than Fitzpatrick, no excuses. He had some flashes but played horribly down the stretch.
Those things aren't mutually exclusive. Andre had a bad year AND we had better wr than the browns. Both statements are pretty obvious. Hoyers play getting worse wasn't the only factor in them falling apart. Part of the reason they were 6-3 was they beat the titans bucs and raiders. They weren't that good, they were being propped up by an easy schedule.

No one has said he was horrible; he played well below the standard he's set. And those ideas are mutually exclusive. Even if he *was* horrible, the Texans' WRs were still better than Cleveland's. Pretty sure no one has said this, either. When they were 6-3, Hoyer had a 90.4 qbr; 10/4 TD/INTs; 8.0 YPA. He wasn't terribly accurate (59%) - but as he went, seems the Browns did, too. In better system, with better coaching and personnel, no reason he can't rebound, ala Fitz.
Oh it's been said. People on here agree with the Texans (per Andre and his agent) that he doesn't need to be a starter. I could also say that the Browns had better TEs than the Texans did. I agree with your last point. When Hoyer was good, he was pretty good and so was the team's record. When he was bad, he was horrible.
It's not remotely the same situation. Bledsoe had been a starter for 8 years. He was a 3 time Pro Bowler and he even made another one with Buffalo the year after he left the Pats. We have the gift of hindsight know what Brady eventually became, but at the time Bledsoe was still better than Brady. Compare that to Hoyer being a backup under OB for 3 seasons and Mallett being a backup under OB for 2. I don't see any reason why one should have more favoritism than the other.
It should absolutely be treated as an open competition. While I'd rather see Mallett as starter (go with the unknown rather than the know), I don't want him going into camp thinking he's already the starter after having played only one decent game last season.
They were going to be competing for a job no matter where they went. We kept hearing about how they Jets were interested in Mallett, but always with the caveat that it was to compete with Geno Smith. Nobody was going to make him the outright starter. Same for Hoyer. Because of their familiarity with OB and the system, they both opted to go with the situation they thought gave them the best chance at being a starter.
Really hoping we cut Graham and approach Joseph about a pay cut (and if he refuses, cut him too). There is a real chance to make some impact additions here. My first target would be either Ron Parker or Da'Norris Searcy, then Harry Douglas, then Wilfork.
