Screw a receiver. Go sign Jerry Hughes for the 8-9 million he wants. He is from Sugar Land and lives here in the offseason. 20 sacks over the past 2 seasons! This is a no brainer. Mercilus is a free agent next season and even if he plays like he did last year or a little better he will be getting 5-6 million easy. Just pay a little more for a pro bowl fringe player to come home and draft Parker in the first round!

I hope Newton's deal isn't one of those that kill the team in dead money if he reverts to his 2011-2013 form, forcing the Texans to keep him.

Pretty much all his guaranteed money is in the first 2 years. After that they can pretty much cut him without much harm.

Huge. Now Mallett and Lewis need to get done and then we can start focusing on short term needs and the draft.

Grabbing a WR in FA would be nice as well.

They are both from Portland and have a common bond of kicking people.

That's a huge relief, now all we REALLY need is to lock down Mallett and stay the F away from Hoyer

That's the second Strong safety the Texans have been associated with today (Parker in KC). Swearinger is officially on notice.

Nice deal for the Texans if that's the case. I thought some team would give him $10 million per.

With Newton and KJ back this doesn't force the Texans into having to use their #1 draft pick to fill those positions. Now if they can go out and sign a respectable #2 WR they can really go BPA.
