Big if true. Wonder if he'll start, or if they'll rotate him and Adams until he's healthy enough for starter snaps.

I feel like confidence is the biggest issue with Hoyer. If his confidence is good he plays up to his abilities and even above from time to time. BUT, if he isn't confident, then things tend to spiral quickly.

The defense is overrated, I agree with that, if you assume equal production from pass rushers this year. Luckily that isn't the case. However, there's no way to know what you get from Clowney week 1, so I'll say that the defense won't be elite to start the year. It will get better as it goes on. We still have some fundamental problems though that expose us against elite QBs (which luckily Alex Smith isn't.) Corners don't have top end recovery speed so they can get beat when QBs have time, don't have a consistent pass rush outside of Watt (hopefully will be better this year with Clowney and Covington added in passing downs, but until we see it...) and don't have elite safety protection over the top to cover up for corner speed. If Clowney contributes a meaningful pass rush and Covington can play during the regular season as well as he did in camp, pass rush will likely be much better this year. Plus Mercilus has allegedly gotten a lot better in camp. It all comes down to pass rush for me. Despite Watt's gaudy numbers, the Texans haven't had a good pass rush in years. If they have a good one this year then the corners will look a lot better because they are both good fundamentally.
Hopefully this is the death of this thread. If not, then I will continue to post in this thread quoting this picture until we get a game thread.
